Job Summary

The Director, Strategy is responsible for driving and overseeing the execution of large scale and complex strategic initiatives within CN, as directed by the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) in collaboration with other senior leadership. The role is part of the Strategy team and interacts across functions at CN, including Operations, Sales and Marketing, Corporate Services, Finance, Human Resources (HR), Sustainability, and Investor Relations. The position is responsible for a portfolio of work that drives measurable value delivery on specific strategic initiatives.

Main Responsibilities

Strategic Initiatives
- Help define the business’s strategic priorities
- Articulate sets of available strategic options for the enterprise
- Define business values
- Manage key deliverables, including market analysis financial models, communication of recommendations and execution plans
- Recommend Senior Management on strategic decisions
- Influence Senior Leadership on strategic topics
- Align stakeholders to common goals
- Communicate outcomes across the business
- Scope work and management of external service vendors
- Deliver value in partnership with the business
- Lead and develop strategic skills across the business

Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday. The incumbent must be available to work night shifts and weekends when necessary.

**Requirements**:
Experience

Transportation and Logistics
- Between 10 to 15 years of Transportation and Logistics experience
- Experience with a Class 1 railroad*
- Experience in Marketing, Sales, Operations, Finance or Technology*

Consulting
- Minimum 6 years of experience in a management consulting firm with specific railroad experience, strategy experience*
- Progressive management and project management experience
- Experience presenting to an executive audience
- Experience developing talent towards successful execution
- Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset

Education/Certification/Designation
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, or equivalent
- Master’s in Business Administration or other advanced degree*
- Additional certifications such as PMP, Lean Six Sigma
- Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset

Technical Skills/Knowledge

- Strong executive communication skills in verbal and written English and French*
- Strong knowledge of CN’s core functions, e.g. Transportation, Network Operations, Sales or Marketing of products, Finance or I&T
- Knowledge of financial analysis and business valuation
- Knowledge of Tableau or a similar analytical visualization tool
- Any knowledge for any of the above would be considered as an asset
