Position Overview:
The Category Manager is responsible for leading the development and execution of innovative category management strategies that deliver sustainable value as well as achieving cost reduction targets with the accountability of managing the value of a set budget. The Category Manager will liaise with cross-functional teams, including business unit leadership to develop category strategies, collaborate with suppliers to drive successful category management, for MRO, Fleet, FM, and Logistics as well as Intermodal stakeholders to optimize procurement planning, contract execution, and recommend strategic priorities. The Category Manager also establishes a supplier base and implements supplier performance processes. The Category Manager reports to the Procurement and Supplier Management Director.
**Job Description**:
- Responsible for leading the category management function to create value, drive improvements, and realize savings for multiple categories for Finning Canada with spend totaling approximately of $600m, across Canada and align with category teams in other regions in which Finning operates.
- Build and executes the category management strategy that supports both the company’s operational objectives and supply chain strategy. Provide input and recommendations into the business processes, systems, and through analysis of overall spend identify new opportunities for savings and efficiencies and manage a multi-year project plan to achieve results.
- Develop, grow and maintain trusted and collaborative relationships with regional business partners, contracting team partners, and stakeholders to ensure Procurement overall is a valued partner and appropriately involved in business decisions.
- Identify, develop and maintain relationships with strategic, and critical suppliers to improve supplier performance and to ensure the most competitive total cost of ownership of goods and services is negotiated. This role will be responsible for regional execution through closely aligning with each area of Finning Canada to ensure flawless execution
- Develop, implement and drive opportunities to increase utilization of preferred suppliers through identification, communications, strategic sourcing, stewardship reviews and progress reporting. This includes supporting the development and accurate use of a tracking and measurement tool.
- Understand regional procurement procedures, workflows and processes and determine opportunities for improvement and standardization across the organization. In addition, understand and ensure compliance with all applicable regional procurement laws and regulations including tax considerations
Qualifications:
- SCMP, IFPSM designation or certification or equivalent procurement/supply chain management designation or certification is preferred
- 10 years of experience in a procurement organization with a leadership focus on category management, strategic planning
- Experience with spend analytics tools and/or e-procurement
- Experience within larger organizations with a proven track record of influencing authority at all levels and executing transformational category management strategies
- Positive, “can-do” attitude and customer focused approach that will enable you to deal with challenging situations with integrity, empathy and passion.
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business or equivalent experience in a related field
