The Social and Community Service Worker will participate in and facilitate programs for children, youth and families which are essential to the alleviation of poverty and homelessness and build healthy relationships between stakeholders in The Mustard Seed’s diverse community.

This position will help facilitate existing child, youth, and family focused programs at the Mosaic Centre, develop a weekly summer drop-in program, and assist with hospitality and front desk duties.

**Schedule**:35 hours per week (8 weeks)

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Plan and implement activities for children, youth, and families
- Assist with our Community Impact Centre Program host duties
- Facilitate programming with program volunteers and when volunteer(s) is absent
- Jointly organize activities with the Site Lead, Youth programmer, and external resources
- Attend staff meetings and other training as required
- Other duties as assigned

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS**
- Diploma or degree in related field is an asset
- Experience working with vulnerable clientele and facilitating programming
- Empathy for the vulnerable and a desire for greater understanding concerning poverty and justice issues in an urban center
- Strong computer, communication and conflict resolution skills
- Interest and skills in recreational activities is an asset
- Strong team building skills

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
- Working environment will include indoor and outdoor activities, office work on computer, lifting and some travel will be required
- Evenings and weekends hours may be required to accommodate the hours of the community hubs
- Physical and mental effort will be moderate
- Valid Driver’s License, Driver’s Abstract and Employment Security Check is required
- Navigating interactions with challenging clients who may exhibit unpredictable behavior, including swearing, anger, and the possibility of becoming aggressive
- Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

**ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
- An Employment Background Check is required for all positions at The Mustard Seed

- Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

**ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR CANADA SUMMER JOBS**
- Be between 18 and 30 years of age
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
- Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
- Not a member of the Immediate Family of the Employer or a member of the Immediate Family of an officer or director of the Employer
