$20-$22.50 depending on experience
average 42.5 hours/week
Weekdays
(+ every second Saturday April to November)

Education: Secondary school student or graduate.

Qualifications: Communication, reading, writing and math skills. Self-motivated with strong organizational skills. Positive attitude and strong work ethic. Ability to embrace hands on solutions to complex challenges. Able to follow instructions, take direction while working independently and in a team environment.

Experience: Relative work history in the sawmill-lumber business is considered an asset.

**Responsibilities**:

- Oversee the unloading and stacking of logs in a sawmill
- Conduct inspection of logs to identify defects and indicate areas for removal
- Sort and arrange logs and timber according to sizes and wood type to allow for easy identification
- Sorting, cutting, and processing of raw logs into lumber and timber products of various sizes
- Load and unload lumber and timber from trucks, forklifts, and conveyors
- Guide log position on carriage to ensure cutting is precise and according to standards
- Guide lumber from the sawing machine into a conveyor which transports the material to a trimmer saw which trims the edges of lumber.
- Sort and store lumbers in sheds on completion of cutting and sawing
- Season lumber to prevent wood shrinkage and warping
- Prepare lumber for kiln to effectively dry and achieve high quality seasoned lumber
- Dispatching processed lumber to planing mill for fine finishing and processing
- Dealing with customers, picking, and preparing customer orders accurately and in a timely fashion
- Maintain accurate record of job operations as well as up-to-date inventory
- Ensure proper disposal of waste materials on completion of job operations
- Operate and maintain a range of equipment among which include conveyor, sawing machine, barkers, and trimmer
- Utilize cutting tools and equipment such as power saw, circular saw, and sander to cut and trim raw logs into desired size and shape
- Operate forklift truck during the loading, unloading, and moving of timber supplies.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety standards during work operations
- Other duties as required

Weight Handling: Physical stamina to lift/carry 50+ pounds

Work Setting: Sawmill Outdoors, all weather

Own Equipment: Steel-toed safety boots, hearing protection, safety glasses, work gloves

Work Site Environment: Noisy, Dusty, Un-even ground

Transportation/Travel Information: Own transportation, valid Drivers License

Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities: repetitive tasks, handling heavy loads, physically demanding, manual dexterity and fine motor skills, attention to detail, hand-eye co-ordination, standing for extended periods

**Salary**: $20.00-$22.50 per hour
