The Ministry of Water, Land and Resource Stewardship is accountable for integrated water, land and natural resource management and cross-sector legislation, policy, and objective setting for land and marine environments. Building on integrated land and resource management efforts in the past, the Ministry will seek to build a new vision in collaboration with natural resource ministries and First Nations that will embrace shared decision making on the land base. The Ministry will strengthen integration across the sector to mitigate, plan, respond and adapt our management practices, including a focus on effectively managing cumulative effects.

The Land Use Policy, Planning and Ecosystems Division works in partnership with Indigenous governments to modernize land use planning with community, stakeholder, and public input including operating and expanding Indigenous forums (e.g., Environmental Stewardship Initiative and Collaborative Stewardship Framework) and working with First Nations on collaborative stewardship of natural resources and monitoring of cumulative effects.

**Job Requirements**:

- Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences, plus 3 years related experience*; OR
- Master of Science or higher in biological sciences, plus 1 year of related experience*.
- Registered (or immediately eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology within six months of employment.
- Note: Immediately eligible is defined as being registered as a Professional Biologist (RP Bio) with the College of Applied Biology within 6 months of appointment. Confirmation of registration/ eligibility will be required before an offer of employment can be confirmed. If you are not currently registered, advise how you have confirmed with the CAB that you are immediately eligible.
- **Related Experience**:

- Recent (within the last 5 years) experience related to field-based inventory and/or monitoring aquatic species and/or ecosystems.
- Recent (within the last 5 years) experience in study design, statistical analysis and/or ecological modelling.
- Recent (within the last 5 years) experience analyzing and evaluating complex water resource management issues with specific focus on impacts to aquatic ecosystems.

**Preference may be given to applicants with 1 or more of the following**:

- Experience with aquatic habitat restoration.
- Experience with wetland assessment and delineation.
- Experience leading staff in project or field settings.
- Experience working with First Nations communities and/or facilitating First Nations consultations or negotiations.
- Experience working with R, ArcGIS, and/or other tools for data management, analysis, and visualisation.

**Willingness statements**
- Valid B.C. driver’s licence.
- Meet safety standards of Work Safe BC.
- May require the operation of a variety of equipment.
- Conducts field work which may include the following: travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- Ability to carry equipment and supplies in difficult terrain.
- Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include a criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act (CRRA) check, and/or enhanced security screening checks as required by the ministry (Note: It is important that you read the job posting carefully to understand the specific security screening requirements pertaining to the position).
