**Job Summary**
Reporting to the Scientific Director and working in consultation with the CIMVHR leadership team, the Managing Editor is responsible for the overall management and operation of the CIMVHR scientific journal, The Journal of Military, Veteran and Family Health (JMVFH). The Managing Editor will be responsible for developing a plan to ensure the stability and sustainability of the journal. The incumbent will strive to create the conditions for the continued growth of the journal and to ensure that the JMVFH is an influential knowledge translation mechanism.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- In consultation and coordination with CIMVHR leadership, the Publisher and Editors-in-Chief, the incumbent will develop, analyse, implement and monitor all content, policies and procedures and contracts related to the JMVFH.
- Provide daily operational oversight of the JMVFH; plan, coordinate and monitor all aspects of content management and operations in order to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
- Manage and monitor work flow to ensure publisher objectives are clearly defined and are met within set deadlines.
- Obtain ideas and information by acting as a liaison with stakeholders and communicating results, in order to foster collaborative research efforts.
- Develop a business plan for JMVFH to ensure financial stability and growth. Assist in strategic planning for the JMVFH.
- Manage and monitor the JMVFH budget ensuring all financial allocations and expenditures are in accordance with the appropriate guidelines and regulations. Provide budget and financial analysis to support current and long range planning.
- Coordinate and invite Associate Editors, as required, to ensure the appropriate number of reviewers are available to meet publication deadlines.
- Ensure an adequate number of Editorial Board members and Editorial Advisors are available to provide expertise and guidance as required.
- Liaise regularly with Associate Editors, Editorial Board members and Editorial Advisors to discuss their role and gather suggestions on improvements for the JMVFH and/or the platform, Scholar One.
- Manage the process for supplements, including the review and creation of contracts, timelines in accordance with all JMVFH guidelines and branding.
- Work with the communications team to create/update a prospectus for possible advertisers.
- Review content for accuracy, redundancy and proper use of citations.
- Conduct plagiarism checks on all articles in Scholar One.
- Identify, develop and maintain relationships with key partners to assist in the growth of the College of Peer Reviewers.
- Liaise with University of Toronto Press (UTP) for JMVFH related matters, including impact factor.
- Undertake other duties as directed by the CIMVHR leadership team and/or Editors

**REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**:
- University degree in a related field such as journalism, public relations, communications or health sciences. Master’s degree in a relevant field is considered an asset.
- Previous (5-7 years) experience as a managing editor or relevant role in an academic publication.
- Proven technical/policy writing, copywriting and editing skills, with excellent document management skills.
- Previous financial and project management experience.
- Working knowledge of online platforms like WordPress and SEO concepts is considered an asset.
- Knowledge and experience with SPSS or similar statistical package considered an asset.
- Previous work experience in a university environment is an asset.
- Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

- Proven research experience in Military and Veteran health research.
- Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written to interact with a diverse audience.
