**We are looking for a Director, Repatriation**
As the **Director, Repatriation** and reporting to the Vice-President, Reconciliation, Engagement, and Government Affairs, you will be responsible for leading a team of professionals in the planning, development and implementation of complex research activities relating to repatriation functions. You will also form harmonious relationships and work with Indigenous communities in the development and identification of repatriation priorities that further the Museum’s national mandate and its fulfillment of Indigenous rights. You will act as a resource for educational purposes so as to expand Canadians’ knowledge of repatriation and Indigenous relations in support of repatriation.

**Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in**:
- Indigenous community outreach and consultation;
- Providing advice on culturally sensitive files and being tactful and discrete;
- Experience of implementing policy administrating policy in a cultural heritage sector and/or government agencies;
- Working with partners, communities, and governmental representatives in complex and sensitive negotiations;
- Maintaining harmonious and mutually beneficial relationships with Indigenous communities;
- Strategic planning including the planning and implementation of complex, long-term projects;
- Managing highly specialized human resources and financial and material resources.
**Knowledge of**:
- The Canadian Museum of History corporation’s mandate, vision, values, strategic directions, corporate priorities, programs, services and activities;
- Of federal treaty negotiations (comprehensive land claims and Indigenous self-government agreements);
- Indigenous cultures, histories, communities, customs, practices and communication styles;
- Understanding Canada’s legal duty to consult and accommodate Indigenous rights holders;
- Addressing requests for repatriation, land claims, and treaty processes within a cultural institution;
- Indigenous consultation, structured dialogue and partnership methodologies;
- The political, legal, ethical and community environments and sensitivities regarding Indigenous relations with other communities, ethno-cultural groups and Governments (Canadian and non-Canadian);
- United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), including Bill C-15 (UN Declaration Act);
- Principles of OCAP and Truth and Reconciliation (TRC) Calls to Action;
- Public sector governance, management and cultural policy;
- Principles of general management, financial and human resources, leadership, motivation and accountability;
- Museums Act, Financial Administration Act, Official Languages Act and managing in a unionized environment;
- Research planning and evaluation.
- Indigenous language (considered to be an asset).
**Specific Working Conditions**:The person may be required to travel within Canada as part of their work.
**Education**:Master’s Degree in Anthropology, Ethnology, Indigenous Studies or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
