This is an 8 week position, 35 hours a week, paying $19.60/hour.

Under the supervision of the Food Services Manager, the Kitchen Associate will support the operations of our commercial community kitchen at the Food Security Distribution Centre. This facility produces healthy, nutritious, and delicious meals using food rescued from local grocery stores and other producers around the Capital Region. These meals are served to the street community at our main location (625 Queens Ave) everyday for lunch, and at our community dinners Friday & Saturday nights. On average, we serve around 2,700 meals per month to those in need, diverting a significant amount of perishable food from the waste stream.

Interns will also be expected to work almost all of the shift on their feet. Kitchen work prepping and cleaning vegetables and fruit. Opportunities for kitchen skills training will also be made available to participants who show interest. Moving many boxes including lifting up to 40 lbs.

Duties and responsibilities of this role include:

- Assisting the Food Rescue Coordinator with the planning and organization of weekly meal plans
- Cooking and meal prep
- Kitchen inventory and management
- Volunteer coordination within the kitchen
- Mustard Seed team duties as needed/required.

These positions are mostly funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program.

To be eligible, youth must:

- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and,
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
- International students are not eligible participants. International students include anyone who is temporarily in Canada for studies and who is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person who has been granted refugee status in Canada.
