**Brief job summary**: Our agency has received specialized funding for 18 months to deliver community-based prevention and intervention strategies and initiatives to tackle gang activity within the City of Burnaby. The objective is to reduce the number of youth engaged or vulnerable to gang exploitation as well as to increase the capacity within the
City of Burnaby for interventions targeted to identified youth. The Youth Worker is responsible for the delivery of services to youth identified as at risk and vulnerable to gang involvement. The worker assists youth in setting goals and connecting them to community resources and developing care teams where appropriate. Community services may include assessment, counselling, education, case management, assistance to therapy, treatment, rehabilitation, crisis intervention, behavior management and life skill development.

- directed, engaging & inclusive Youth Worker **. **Our aim is to connect youth to existing community resources with the overall goal of improving resiliency, connectedness, life skills, health and well-being.
Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Youth Worker will provide services that embrace a collaborative, wrap-around, ICM model, working closely with the clients and other professionals in the community, such as social workers, clinicians and other supports.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Connect and engage with identified youth who are at risk or are currently gang involved.
- Develop an individualized care plan with the youth based on individual assessment and clients’ needs and preferences.
- Provide one-to-one and case management support to the youth & families and link them to established community and/or natural supports.
- Provide services in the community and at our site.
- Liaise with community referral partners including City of Burnaby, Burnaby School

District and RCMP.
- To help children, youth and families learn and practice skills that foster self
- reliance.
- To maintain necessary participant and program reports and statistics. To ensure that all required documentation is accurate, timely, complete and legible.

**Work Schedule**: Will require flexible hours, including weekdays and occasionally some weekends/evenings.
**Wage**: Contract for 18 months, (30 hours per week) salary $31.00 +6% in lieu of benefits, plus benefits: Holiday & sick allotment. Cell phone, & Km allowance.

**Requirements**:Must have a reliable car and appropriate business insurance.
Valid Driver’s license, First Aid certificate, criminal record clearance and be fully vaccinated.

**Qualifications**:Bachelor’s Degree in child and youth care / Community Social Services or related field, and at least two years of direct work experience in the field of youth and family services, with an emphasis on counseling at risk and high-risk youth and their families. Must have a broad base of skills: experience with trauma informed practice, mental health & addictions, employment & life skills, abuse issues, conflict resolution, cultural agility, and knowledge of youth justice system. An equivalent of skills, education and experience may be considered.
