**Role**:
The Director of Operational Merchandising is responsible for working cross functionally with leadership at the Corporate and Region levels. They will collaborate with leadership from other functional teams and external partners to develop and standardize the tools, process and solutions aligned with the key operating initiatives to improve the customer experience and drive operational efficiencies. This role leads a team responsible for managing the development and deployment of standard merchandising best practices designed to improve efficiencies and meet company goals.

**Role Responsibilities**:

- Collaborates regularly with Category Management, Sales, Marketing & Revenue Management to prepare field ready category strategies.
- Works with field merchandising and the Director Sales Strategy & Operations (DSSO) team to ensure cross functional field execution and alignment.
- Ensure processes and tools are efficient and sustainable.
- Manages the common assortment and compliance to it.
- Balance field input and creativity with need for sustainable business process
- Demonstrates well developed influencing skills with the ability to easily connect in a credible manner with field and headquarter leadership teams.
- Complies with Sysco’s Food Safety Policy and procedures to ensure food safety, quality and legality requirements are met.
- Understands both the economic and cultural value that a safe organization with mínimal environmental impact brings to an organization.
- Is willing to drive Environmental, Health and Safety performance by providing necessary resources and holding their team accountable to complying with EHS programs, policies, and requirements.
- Enable, champion, and embrace an inclusive culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications/Skills/Job Requirements (About you)**:

- Merchandising expertise in the operational/field setting.
- 8+ years management/professional experience required.
- Significant category management, merchandising and/or operations experience within a retail, wholesale or distribution environment preferred.
- Post-Secondary education in related field preferred, equivalent work experience will be considered.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Hospitality, Marketing, or related field preferred.
- Project management certification an asset
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Strong written & verbal communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to effectively foster strong relationships with Suppliers, internal cross functional departments such as Sales & Marketing, Revenue Management, Supply Chain, Category Management, Business Technology (BT), etc. to drive sales, resolve issues and create competitive advantage.
- Strong negotiation, organizational, decision making and presentation skills.
- High degree of integrity and accountability; handles significant amount of proprietary information and process. Trust is essential.
- Capable of indirectly leading, must have the ability to look for innovation and innovative approaches, opportunities and identify solutions for complex or unique problems.
- Equally adept at working independently with little direction as working on team environment. Role requires flexibility in working style.
