**Associate Physician - Pediatric Immunology**

The Associate Physician practices under the direction and supervision of an attending physician in Pediatric Immunology and works in a structured, team-based, specialty care setting to sustain capacity and service delivery. The AP functions as a member of the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Immunology.
Key Accountabilities:
- Participates on Immunology rounds on admitted patients under the supervision of the Pediatric Immunology attending physicians, along with residents, fellows and other health care providers (nurses, dieticians, pharmacists, social workers etc.).
- Performs new Immunological consultations on patients admitted under the Clinical Teaching Unit (CTU), the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), the Neonatology Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the Emergency Department (ED), or any other pediatric medical and surgical sub-specialties.
- Performs and documents admission history and physical examinations, progress notes, discharge summaries, medication reconciliations as per BC College and organizational standards, policies, and guidelines.
- Arranges consultations with other departments and clinical care teams for patient care and investigation.
- Follows through on investigations and arranges follow-up outpatient visits.
- Manages the day-to-day care of patients, including writing medical orders, on charts and consultations of other services and responding to emergencies in hospital, in consultation with attending staff.
- Participates in consultation of outpatients referred to the Division of Immunology.
- Communicates with families, consultant physicians, referring and family physicians concerning patient management plans.
- Participates in review of patients in the Medical Day Unit (MDU) undergoing infusion treatments.
- Performs assessment of both new and follow-up patients, under supervision of the Pediatric Immunology attending, depending on need of the service and staff availability.
Qualifications:
- Medical degree from a school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
- Minimum of two (2) years of accredited postgraduate training in Pediatric Allergy and Clinical Immunology, verified by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC).
- Successful completion of Part 1 of the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) or Steps 1 through 3 of the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLEs).
- Must meet the CPSBC’s English language proficiency requirements.
- Must be eligible for registration with the CPSBC in the Associate Physician class.
- Have Canadian Citizenship, be a permanent resident, or be legally able to live and work in British Columbia.

The applicant should have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a team. This includes the ability to:
- Interact effectively and collaboratively.
- Adapt effectively with other professionals in complex, dynamic situations.
- Communicate and collaborate with families about health findings, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and follow-up.
- Demonstrate effectiveness as a communicator and able to build relationships with other health professionals and disciplines using a variety of communication strategies.
- Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight Report (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), and other related reports.
- Commitment to upholding the shared responsibility of creating lasting and meaningful reconciliation in Canada as per TRC (2015) and BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019).
As per the current Public Health Order, full vaccination against COVID-19 is a condition of employment with PHSA as of October 26, 2021.
