FORTY HOURS PER WEEK. (Mon-Fri 2:30-1030pm)

QUALIFICATIONS AS PER JOB DESCRIPTION.

**TITLE**: CUSTODIAN I

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
1. Completion of recognized Building Service Worker (BSW) Level 1 course with three months cleaning experience or one-year experience in a related environment of cleaning.

2. Basic knowledge of materials, chemicals, methods and equipment used in commercial cleaning environments.

4. Completion of grade twelve

5. Individual is a self-starter with demonstrated ability to successfully fulfill assigned responsibilities, often while adapting to changes in the workplace.

6. Ability to effectively work and communicate well with other people.

7. Possesses strong organizational skills and works efficiently without direct supervision.

8. Good health in order to perform a variety of assigned tasks including the lifting of medium to heavy loads.

9. Ability to work overhead, at heights and/or working on a 6ft ladder.

**RESPONSIBLE TO**: Manager, Operations and Head Custodian

**SUPERVISES**: N/A

**JOB GOAL**: To provide students & staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable and clean environment in which to work and/or learn, play and develop.

**PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES**:
1. Responsible for keeping interior of building and exterior main entranceways (10ft) neat and clean during working hours. Follows cleaning task list created by Head Custodian and Manager of Operations

2. Keeps floors clean via sweeping, mopping, vacuuming and in a good state of preservation.

3. Scrubs, mops and disinfects washrooms, cleans all sanitary fixtures, drinking fountains, and replenishes washroom supplies daily.

4. Washes and/or sanitizes District desks & tabletops daily.

5. Washes windows & glass partitions.

6. Washes walls, doors, shelves and other surfaces as required.

7. Cleans all white & chalk board rails and performs high dusting as required.

8. Reports all repairs and damages promptly to Head Custodian.

9. Unlocks doors in area of responsibility for those people using school facilities after school hours. Inspects the area used to ensure that it has been left in good condition and reports any damages to Head Custodian.

10. Moves & adjusts District chairs, desks and tables within building as required as time permits. Significant or heavier moves require work-order submitted for Maintenance assistance.

11. Empties and cleans garbage & recycling receptacles within building.

12. Changes interior and exterior lights as can be reasonably reached with a 6ft ladder.

13. Keeps custodial cart, equipment and storage room organized and clean.

14. Shovels and applies salt to exterior main entranceways (10ft) as required during regular working hours.

15. Fosters a harmonious work environment within a team atmosphere.

16. Performs other related duties as time permits and/or assigned.

**TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT**: Twelve-month year.

RATE OF PAY AS PER THE COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT.

DUTIES TO COMMENCE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AND WILL CONCLUDE UPON THE RETURN OF THE INCUMBENT OR UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTIFIED BY THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT.
