**Position Summary**

The Part-Time Daycare Building Maintenance Worker is responsible for custodial duties to include overall building maintenance to the Esquimalt Nation Childcare Center. This position is integral in ensuring the cleanliness and overall function of the Esquimalt Nation and supports the delivery of culturally relevant childcare curriculum.

**Primary Responsibilities**
- Inspects work-related conditions to determine compliance with prescribed operating and safety standards;
- Cleans, sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes and polishes floor by hand or machine. Cleans carpet, upholstery and furniture;
- Washes windows, screens, sills, woodwork, doors, desks, walls and ceilings;
- Orders and stocks needed materials and supplies;
- Cleans and sanitizes rest rooms, dusts and vacuums rooms, locks and unlocks doors, moves equipment and furniture;
- Sets up and takes down tables and chairs for events and programs;
- Participates in meetings, workshops, training sessions, and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions;
- Helps with a wide variety of general and semiskilled maintenance activities (e.g. carpentry, painting, electrical, etc.) for the purpose of completing projects within established time frames and budgets;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees;
- Deals courteously with customers, tenants and the public;
- Responds to emergency situations during and after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns;
- Arranges furniture and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for special events.

- Demonstrated knowledge of Esquimalt/Indigenous people and culture
- Ability to work within a team
- Strong communication (verbal and written) skills and report writing skills
- Possesses reliable public relations and interpersonal skills to clarify facts, provide information and respond to community needs
- Proven ability to work with limited supervision and follow standardized practices and/or methods
- Ability to operate/perform/deliver within a defined budget
- Skilled in working with children and families
- Demonstrated mental alertness to ensure the safety of others

**Training, Education, and Experience**
- Minimum of 1-year experience in custodial work
- Physically capable of performing listed duties
- Understanding of Federal Policies and Legislation as they impact First Nation Communities and specific areas of responsibility
- Preference given to applicants of indigenous descent
