The Recreation Therapy Aide is an unregulated health care provider. Reporting to the Recreation Manager, the Recreation Aide is a member of a collaborative team providing recreation and leisure services for residents in an individualized meaningful way. The main accountabilities of the position are providing assistance with all resident group recreation activities, providing social support, and providing assistance with individual resident recreation activities. The incumbent in the position fosters and maintains effective relationships with care staff, residents and family members, volunteers and other staff working in the facility. The incumbent also acts as a role model and ambassador for the Mission and Values of the Foundation.

**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES**

**Formal Education**:

- Grade 12 and Recreation Aide Certificate from a recognized program or equivalent;
- Proficiency in the English language.
- Cantonese speaking strongly preferred.
- Dementia education is an asset.

**Experience**:

- Previous experience working with older and/or disabled adults in continuing care settings.
- Previous experience working with resident’s with cognitive impairment.
- Experience in leading groups in activities.

**Special Knowledge/Skills**:

- Act as mentor/coach and role model to other Recreation Aides and Volunteers through sharing knowledge and experience.
- Act as an advocate for resident needs and choices.
- Flexible in accommodating resident’s needs.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of resident, family and staff information.
- Effective verbal and written (English) communication skills and use of health care terminology.
- Computer skills and knowledge.
- Effective organizational skills and ability to organize time and materials effectively.
- Demonstrates customer service and resident-centered care.
- Works within the Mission and Values of LeeCaring Communities.
- Able to work flexible hours according to programming needs.

**Classification**:Therapy Aide 0.8FTE

**Requires Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sectors Check**

**Job Types**: Permanent, Full-time

**Salary**: $17.21-$20.13 per hour

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed

**Education**:

- Secondary School (preferred)

**Language**:

- Cantonese (preferred)
