Summary

The Chief Executive Officer oversees all W_SÁNEC School Board (WSB) activities as the most senior position. Key functions include communication, financial management, supervision, and evaluation, with a focus on benefiting the youth through trust-based relationships.

Scope

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Chief Executive Officer ensures effective organization functioning and policy implementation. The W_SÁNEC School Board includes various departments and buildings. Acting as the primary contact, the Chief Executive Officer collaborates with managers, staff, parents, students, and the public.

Duties

Board Responsibilities

Arrange and attend board and committee meetings, manage minutes, and handle correspondence.

Safeguard Board documents, provide policy interpretations, and present annual plans, budgets, and financial reports.

Advise on financial matters, manage payroll, and approve purchases to ensure property control.

Facilitate principal recruitment, conduct evaluations, and fulfill all tasks set by Board resolution.

Financial Management Responsibilities

Work in collaboration with Financial Controller to provide annual budgets and regular financial reporting to the Board, as well as oversee management’s budgets and financial reporting.

Ensure budgets are prepared in accordance with strategic plans.

Supervision and Evaluation

Facilitate principal recruitment searches, develop job descriptions, and conduct supervision and evaluations.

Administer, supervise, and evaluate the WSB finance and administration functions for efficiency.

Recommend staffing changes (i.e., job descriptions/titles) based on evaluation outcomes

Other Responsibilities

Carry out all other tasks set out by Board resolution.

**Required Competencies**:
Considerable management experience in school administration and/or First Nations environment.

Understanding of and sensitivity to First Nation’s culture, history, and management style.

Strong ability to guide and support senior management and/or Board members.

Working knowledge of HR policies, supervisory concepts, and conflict resolution.

Excellent project management, prioritization, and teamwork skills.

Effective communication with diverse stakeholders.

Willingness to collaborate with four bands, promoting objectivity and fairness.

**Desirable Competencies**:
Extensive experience and graduate work in educational leadership, strategic planning, and fiscal management

Experience at a senior administrative level

Thorough knowledge and understanding of leadership pertaining to board of governance with affiliated first nations.

**Required Qualifications**:
Minimum master’s degree in related field

Minimum of five (5) years in Administrative or Department Head Position or Management/Supervisory Role within the Education System

Preference will be given to First Nations Ancestry.

Experience working with First Nations people and/or in a First Nations setting is desired.
