ICI Society was incorporated in May 2001 and registered under the BC Societies Act as a non
- profit organization, focused on building collaboration and cooperation between local governments, provincial government and major utility companies in British Columbia. The purpose of the Society upon incorporation was to share data from multiple agencies so that members can contribute and consume spatial data from one source. Membership expanded to include First Nations and other organizations that benefit from sharing an integration of cadastral data. Members submit land parcel (cadastral), infrastructure and address data for sharing to the ICI Society and this contributed data is then integrated into a feature class, multilayer geospatial fabric, which is accessible back to members.
The ICI Society works closely with its members to provide valuable geospatial information and mapping services. New initiatives are established by the Board of Directors who represent the needs of the Society’s community. The Board is comprised of representatives who come from provincial and local governments, provincial and utility member segments and First Nations. The Society works on new initiatives which emphasize and support the value of the ICI Society membership.
The Society has developed its own highly customized Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) suite of tools known as GeoShare, to facilitate the acquisition and distribution of member data.
**POSITION PURPOSE**:
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the GIS Technician is responsible for the development, maintenance, and documentation of the ICI Society’s GeoShare Environment. This includes data loading processes, data models, metadata, and data distribution processes. The GIS Technician is involved in communications and stakeholder engagement, including the provision of high quality and responsive information for members and develops approaches to engagement, collaboration, and innovation that create improved value for the Society and its members.
The GIS Technician actively engages with all member segments including; Local Government, Utilities, First Nations, Provincial Ministries and Associates in supporting the Society’s vision:
- “Collect and integrate geospatial data throughout BC, by leveraging relationships with its members, to inform better decision-making for British Columbians.”_
**KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS**:
The key responsibilities associated with the GIS Technician position include, but are not limited to:
**Technical Support**
- Administer and manage the data in the ICI Society’s Data Warehouse and Data Catalog.
- Develop, maintain, and support the Society’s GeoShare (ETL) infrastructure, including stakeholder engagement, analysis, data modelling, design, coding, testing, implementation, and documentation.
- Improve and expand GeoShare processes to acquire, integrate, and distribute member data, including incorporating new datasets, developing and implementing data quality management processes, and other enhancements as required.
- Support the ongoing maintenance of data access services, including web mapping services, data notification services and metadata services.
- Perform on-site/remote technical work required to implement GeoShare Scripts.
- Develop and deliver training to support ICI Society Members in accessing data and services as well as installing and updating GeoShare data sharing scripts.
- Manage Member access to ICI Society data and services such as the Web Map Viewer, Data Catalog, and Collaboration Portal, using software including Microsoft Active Directory, Cerberus FTP Server, and WordPress.
**Outreach & Member Support**
- Develop effective relationships and collaborate with ICI Society members to achieve program objectives.
- Support members with scheduled, on-going, and documented liaison.
- Assist in the facilitation of ICI Society workshops, Virtual Cafes, and other presentations.
- Attend, participate in, and present at conferences, seminars, and other external events to engage with members, increase ICI Society’s visibility, and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders.
**Operational Support**
- Participate in training, conferences, courses, and other professional development opportunities in order to maintain knowledge and understanding of current products, software updates, and best practices.
- Full participation in team meetings and adhering to all operational reporting requirements.
- Collaborate and liaise with Operations team members to fulfill Society objectives
