**Description**:
Based out of the Sherwood Park office the Specialist, Emergency Management will report to the Senior Manager, Safety & Risk Management. This is a professional role at Inter Pipeline Ltd. (IPL) in the Safety and Risk Management group with responsibility to support the safe, reliable, and compliant operation of Inter Pipeline’s (IPL’s) Transportation assets. More specifically the role supports operations by developing, maintaining, implementing, and monitoring programs to promote industry leading performance in the areas of mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.
**Key Activities and Responsibilities**
- Align the emergency management program with the Transportation Business Unit and departmental objectives, strategies, and initiatives in accordance with the Transportation Operations Management System (TOMS)
- Develop long term strategies and work plans
- Encourage feedback from operations and incorporate it into the program when appropriate
- Manage, mentor, and coordinate all aspects of the Inter Pipeline Field Initial Response and Support Team (FIRST), including recruitment, training, and equipment needs
- Ensure an Incident Management Team can be deployed and operate competently
- Coordinate maintenance, revision, and distribution of emergency response plans
- Facilitate risk assessments and business impact analyses to ensure adequate emergency preparedness and the continuity of operations throughout the Transportation Business Unit
- Coordinate the update, development and implementation of policies, standards, and procedures
- Plan, deliver and assess emergency management training and exercises
- Report any identified risks as related to regulatory requirements, operational processes, or overall business unit liability
- Assist with hazard identification and risk assessments to ensure adequate emergency preparedness throughout the organization
- Actively manage and forecast operating costs and demonstrate cost efficiency
- Prepare cost information on activities for inclusion in the annual budget.
**Education, Skills and Experience**:
- 10 years of related experience
- Emergency Management degree / certification preferred
- Experience with Business Continuity practices
- Emergency Response experience and experience with equipment related to it is an expectation
- Efficient Microsoft Office skills; Word, Excel and Outlook
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to communicate with people from a wide variety of backgrounds
- Ability to interpret, understand legislation and translate it to a diverse audience
- Willingness to continuously improve skill sets and pursue further training
- Proactive skills in seeking out ways to add continuous improvement to the organization
- Must possess and maintain a valid class five driver’s license
- NFPA. CEM/AEM, ABCP/CBCP considered assets
