**Basic Function**:

- Process tax billings, assessment changes, and adjustments to tax accounts
- Ensure integrity of property taxation data, sub ledger and general ledger balances

**Position Description**:

- Process billings in a timely manner to meet legislative requirements.
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of property tax data
- Review and approval of electronic pre-authorized payment plan files for transmission to the financial institution
- Process adjustments to tax accounts as required (e.g. severances, consolidations, assessment changes, refunds, capping and clawback)
- Assist manager with departmental planning, organizing, and prioritizing. Review incoming correspondence and materials and respond when appropriate or distribute to other staff for action. Responds within standard corporate response times
- Certify tax certificates in the absence of the Tax Collector
- Responsible for maintaining inventory of departmental supplies/forms
- Input tax codes, rates and general ledger accounts in tax sub ledger annually
- Review and monitor all cash receipts journals for accuracy in preparation for the bank reconciliation process
- Balance property tax sub ledger to the general ledger and process penalty and interest monthly
- Respond to inquiries from customers and law firms. Liaise with mortgage companies and other agencies (e.g., OPTA, MPAC)
- Provide backup of customer service and cashiering duties in the absence of Revenue Tax Clerks
- Maintain written procedures of work processes and participate in cross-training
- Provide training and guidance to other county staff with respect to the cash receipts and taxation software
- Reconciliation of general ledger accounts related to the property tax function and other accounting duties as assigned
- May transport deposits to bank in accordance with County policy
- Perform other duties as assigned

**Requirements**:
**Knowledge and Experience**:

- Two year Community College diploma in business or accounting studies
- Over two years, up to and including three years of related experience to be familiar with the scope of the position. Previous experience in the municipal taxation or utilities field is preferred.
- Completion of Municipal Tax Administration Program would be an asset (requirement upon hire)

**Skills and Abilities**:

- Possess a good understanding of the current acceptable accounting practices and procedures
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
- Knowledge and understanding of legislative framework and understanding of municipal government operations, specifically finance principles and standards
- Computer expertise of at least an intermediate level in corporate standard software (Microsoft Office), experience in corporate financial software (GP Dynamics) would be an asset
- An aptitude for numbers with a keen sense of accuracy, thoroughness and attention to detail
- Must demonstrate strong customer service skills to respond to customers confidentially in a professional and courteous manner
- Must demonstrate initiative, positive workplace behaviours and the ability to ask questions, identify issues and concerns, research and find solutions
- Must be able to work in a team environment with the ability to communicate orally and in written form in a clear, professional, concise and courteous manner
- Must be highly organized, prioritize tasks and meet strict deadlines in a demanding environment
- Must be aware of safe work practices as they relate to job responsibilities and work environment, and have the basic understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act
