**Job Description**:
The Design Formation Program seeks an instructor for DSGN 2256 Experiential Design IV: Media and Technology in Experiential Design in the Spring of 2024 semester. This is a 1 section course (1/4 of full time, which is one hour a week of classroom instruction, one hours of lab supervision, two hours of studio support, plus other duties related to the college).

DSGN 2256 Experiential Design IV: Media and Technology in Experiential Design involves teaching students to explore dynamic approaches to experiential design and storytelling in built environments. With an emphasis on current and emerging technology, students will assess existing design trends, diagnose problems, and explore design solutions through industry methodologies.

The learning outcomes for this course are:

- Name and explain pertinent technologies used in experiential design
- Analyze, explain, and summarize a design problem related to an augmented physical experience
- Identify and list all requirements for a specific design problem
- Compare and contrast design precedents applicable for specific design problems, including assessing the variety of tools and technologies that would be relevant to specific user needs
- Test and examine individual design iterations
- Relate and summarize empathetic qualities of the end user(s) by testing user experiences
- Ideate solutions related to a design challenge
- Assemble a storyboard
- Identify different opportunities to interact with the physical space
- Outline the steps users take to get to a final outcome of a design solution
- Incorporate the principles of usability
- Assemble prototypes
- Test and verify assumptions about design solutions
- Revise designs based on testing and feedback

The topics covered in this course are:
PART I: BACKGROUND AND RESEARCH
- Project brief based on existing physical conditions, content, and end user goals
- Case study research and precedents
- Co-creation toolkit (techniques for collaborating with the end user)
- Project schedule and management (GANTT schedule)

PART II: CREATIVE PROJECT based on part 1
- Presentation/design proposal that may include technical drawings and digital visualizations
- Storyboard
- Crowd source content creation and social media (how to manage and filter it)
- Creative outcomes based on milestones found in project schedule. Theses outcomes will be immersive augmented environments that could include audio components, light components, web components, and/or haptic technologies, etc.
- Virtual reality walk through 3D modeling software that allows students to import/draw to scale in vectors, export scale 2D vector graphics, model in NURBS,

solids and meshes, and export to a variety of filetypes for presentations, photorealistic rendering, AR/VR or rapid prototyping.

Qualifications:
All faculty are required to have the following qualifications to teach in the Design Formation Department:

- Master’s degree (or equivalent)
- A Bachelor's degree with an appropriate major, plus five years of full-time employment directly related to program instructional areas.
- A credential from a recognized institution in an appropriate discipline, and eight years full-time employment in an area directly related to the program instructional areas;
- Ten years full-time employment in an area directly related to the program instructional areas.
- Portfolio presentation of current and relevant work including professional and teaching work.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills.
- Demonstratable experience using a Mac operating system.
- Course specific requirements are listed under each course (See Page 2-3)
- 3-5 years of teaching experience
- Teaching experience with college-level design courses
- 3-5 years experience in a relevant design field

Course specific qualifications:
Technology instructor:

- Demonstratable knowledge of pertinent technologies used in experiential design.
- Demonstratable ability to compare and contrast design precedents applicable for a specific design problem, including assessing the variety of tools and technologies relevant to specific user needs.
- Demonstratable experience with user research and testing.
- Demonstratable experience with rapid iteration in design
