**Geomatics Specialist (Co-Op)**

**Flash Forest** is a reforestation company that uses aerial mapping software, drone technology, pneumatics, automation, ecological science and a lot of passion to reforest post-harvest and post-wildfire areas at a rapid pace. We accelerate the rate of reforestation worldwide. Instead of humans on the ground, we transfer the hard labor to drones at 10 times the speed. Living in the age of technology, we can effectively harness this to restore entire ecosystems, scaling the global quest for carbon neutrality.

**_Your Contribution_**

In this position, the incumbent will utilize their educational background to assist with developing geographic information systems to create planting reference data with high quality electronic maps. The mapping information will be utilized to then create drone flight paths to plant trees in defined locations. Responsibilities will include participating in attaining geographical imagery through various sources including, satellite, drone and/or coordinating 3rd party mapping activities. The position will also include detailed map analysis to determine topography, vegetation and specific ground features for planting evaluation.

**_Role & Responsibility_**
- Obtaining mapping information from various sources.
- Assessment of mapping information and create automated workflows.
- Modify mapping information to meet specified criteria for planting operations.
- May be required to generate drone flight paths using proprietary software.
- Assist with on-site operations and flight validation as required.

**_Competencies & Qualifications_**
- You have recently completed or are enrolled in a Geography or Spatial Analysis program, or a computer science/engineering program with GIS experience.
- Familiar with the use of QGIS.
- Experience working with remote sensing data, including satellite and orthomosaic imagery.
- Experience working with and analyzing other raster data such as DEM/DSM.
- Experience with Python scripting in GIS environments or R strongly preferred.
- Drone Pilot Certificate for Basic Operations issued by Transport Canada an asset.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and work well under pressure in a dynamic environment.
- Demonstrate initiative & proactive attributes.
- Good interpersonal skills and enjoys working in a team setting.
- Ability to work collaboratively, open to sharing ideas and listening to others.
