**Job Purpose**
The Security Guard is primarily responsible for undertaking the surveillance of Academy’s premises and the protection of our staff and visitors. Daily inspection and securing of site at the end of each shift is required. The Security guard is responsible for noting and logging the entry and exit of employees, visitors and other individuals on the premises.
**Roles and Responsibilities**
- Displays a commitment to Academy’s Safety program, values, and culture
- Wear the appropriate personal protective equipment at all times
- Ensure that each vehicle that enters site is displaying an Academy parking pass
- Ensure all visitors stop upon arrival to ensure they have been signed in on the visitor log and issue them a visitor parking tag
- Ensure all visitors understand the method of alarm, muster point and first aid locations in case of an emergency
- In the event of an emergency the security guard is responsible to man the gate and wait for emergency services to give them directions to the location of the emergent situation
- Ensure all employees who leave site for coffee or lunch breaks are logged to ensure they are accounted for during an evacuation
- Responsible for completing Screening for visitors prior to allowing them on site
- Responsible for inspection of the facility to ensure no one is left on site and that all buildings have been properly secured at the end of each shift
- Submit Daily site security checklist to HSE Manager at the end of each shift
- Responsible to look out for suspicious activity, theft or vandalism and report it to the HSE Manager right away
- Cooperate with Academy Logistics and Supervisors to help direct delivers to the proper locations
- Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor with all Employees, visitors and public
**Qualifications**
- Certification from ABST
- CSTS-2020
**Skills**
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented, with a keen sense of observation
- A strong understanding of security-specific protocols and procedures
- A good judgement to identify the best course of action when faced with dangerous situations
- Patience and tolerance for being able to spend long periods observing
- Proactive capability to follow complex instructions
**Working Conditions**
The incumbent is required to work in an office environment with moderate noise. The job may require the incumbent to walk stairs; be outside in inclement weather (slippery surfaces and cold); carrying objects, driving and being exposed to normal office routines.
**Physical Requirements**
The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time; and extensive reading. The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
**Salary**: $20.00-$24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
