**The Opportunity**:
The **Specialist - Hydrogeologist **provides hydrogeological characterization studies, technical expertise related to operational mine water management for all Vale’s North Atlantic (NA) mine operations. This role will work within multi-stakeholders to assist with hydrogeologic monitoring and modelling of mine water inflow to manage hydrogeological hazards at all NA mine Operations. The role would also serve as a technical advisor to support Vale Base Metals’ Project Group in the process of prefeasibility and feasibility studies and provide technical support as required. The role will support integration of approved technologies, required monitoring and data collection, and will provide a link between mine operations and the hydrogeologic requirements that are designed within the Long Rang Mine Planning Package. The role will also ensure that health and safety standards and legislated requirements are effectively satisfied and will communicate to the appropriate levels within the organization on status and issues.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Assist with the development of Water Management Plans to ensure that all water-related hazards, including unwanted, excessive accumulations and flows of water in underground mines and open pits, are adequately addressed to ensure safety and protection of major mine infrastructure.
- Routinely undertake risk assessments and evaluate mine inflow risks and provide mitigation guidance to mine Operations and MTS as per the requirements of Vale Base Metals’ “Underground Mine Geotechnical Standards”.
- Perform Hydrogeology and Hydrology modelling / studies to support long-term and Life of Mine mine design/planning.
- Conduct site investigations and develop analytical and numerical models to evaluate the hydrogeological setting for the mine sites.
- Implement, manage and maintain hydrology monitoring & field instrumentation programs, as required.
- Collect hydrologic data then develop overall mine Mine-scale hydrogeological model, surface water, & underground drainage system.
- Determine the impact of local hydrogeological conditions on mining operations and the hydrogeologic impacts on the geomechanics of underground openings and pit slopes.
- Assess impacts to the hydrologic (groundwater and surface water) systems and neighboring environments, water quality models, and water balance models for a new mine and/or underground expansions and develop mitigation measures to fulfill the identified gaps.
- Design open pit and underground depressurization and dewatering systems if required.
- Provide technical expertise on designing and managing mine water management studies and programs, involving the collection of hydrogeological field data and data interpretation/evaluation, in all FEL studies for NA Capital Projects.
- Lead technical investigations of major inflow incidents to prevent re-occurrence.
- Participate in Vale-required audits and reviews (i.e. Geotechnical Review Board (GRB), HIRA and Integrated Operations Assessment (IOA)) and develop action plans to address recommendations.
- Provide technical guidance, peer review, training, and mentoring for junior technical and operational staff

**About You**
- BS Degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Environment, Geological, Mining Engineering or related field.
- P.Eng, CMA, CA, P. Geology is mandatory.
- Master’s degree preferred

- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with spreadsheet manipulation in Excel.
