**Behaviour Support Worker** is responsible for maintaining and promoting the well-being and safety of each client. They will mentor, counsel, and promote a big brother/ big sister relationship and encourage their clients to develop individual skills, talents, and abilities while maintaining their health and safety requirements.

We are seeking professional and certified individuals who are highly qualified in supporting children and youth with behavioral challenges, mental health exceptionalities, special needs, and who may be experiencing the following but not limited to the following symptoms/diagnosis:

- Autism Spectrum
- Asperger's Syndrome
- ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder)
- FASD (Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder)
- ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder)
- Behavioral Disorder (Aggressive Violent/Withdrawn)
- Anxiety Disorder
- Poor Emotional Skills or Self-Esteem (Trauma/Neglect)
- Learning disabilities or impairments
- Poor social skills

**Responsibilities**
- Ensures a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for clients and provides one-on-one support in a variety of different settings including foster homes, family homes, day programs, hospitals, group homes, and community support programs.
- Support clients to function more independently in homes, workplaces, and communities. Provides support with daily life skills, social skills and /or behaviour management.
- Accompanies and/or transports individuals to activities such as appointments, shopping, or leisure activities.
- Be able to mentor or counsel individual young people
- Ensures health and safety standards are maintained.
- Promotes behavioural change and personal growth of clients who are having difficulties coping because of social, emotional, physical, or cognitive delays.
- Consults with social workers, other professionals, and family when appropriate.
- Adheres to Gentle Family’s policies and procedures and meets all legal, contractual, financial, and other compliance requirements.
- Represents Gentle Family in a positive and professional manner.
- Supports the mission, vision, and values Gentle Family.

**Qualifications**
- College Diploma or a University Degree (Autism & Behavioural Sciences, Developmental Services, Human Services, Police Foundations, Psychology, Criminology, and other disciplines will be considered)
- Must have knowledge and experience in supporting individuals with Autism, Developmental Disabilities, Challenging and Aggressive Behaviours is an asset
- Must have experience and flexibility in providing one-on-one support to individuals with severe emotional and behavioural difficulties; ability to perform all techniques taught in Safe Management
- Experience with facilitating and supporting Person Centered Planning
- Must be comfortable supporting individuals at indoor/outdoor social community events
- Current certification in First Aid/CPR
- Must be able to successfully complete and provide a current Police Vulnerable Sector Check
- Be able to mentor or counsel individual young people
- A minimum of two-year experience working experience as a Child & Youth Worker and/or Social Worker.
- Demonstrate ability to facilitate relationships and connections wherein persons served expand their personal support networks and find new and meaningful relationships.
- Good understanding of, and experience working with, children and youth with physical or mental developmental disabilities.
- Able to work independently and demonstrate self-initiative.
- Ability to relate appropriately to youth as well as to the families of each client.
- Experience creating client-centered plans.
- Ability to work a variety of shifts to accommodate appointments after school, in the evenings, and on weekends.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with youth effectively and adapt to accommodate developmental needs.
- Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office suite and experience with an electronic client records management system.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Certification in UMAB, CPR and First Aid
- Valid “G” Class Driver’s License and reliable vehicle is required; to attend client appointments, events, and programs
