DEFINITION
The Sample Seamstress assembles all parts of a garment on a sewing machine. These responsibilities include sewing the lining of garments, using special machines or overlockers and any other tasks incidental to the assembly of a garment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receive specification sheets and cutting samples
- Study the specification sheet and consult with pattern makers as needed
- Sew garment according to procedures
- Consult with supervisor as needed
- Finish garment according to company standards
- Press garment as required in accordance with company standards
- Perform simple machine maintenance such as replacing broken needles, adjusting tension and replacing bobbins
- Ensure lubrication of the sewing machine once a month
- Clean the sewing machine once a week
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a sample seamstress in the manufacturing industry
- Good understanding of the terms used in garment manufacturing
- Good knowledge of garment design and construction
- Speaks and reads French or English
SCHEDULE
35 hours per week and possibility of 4 hours of overtime per week (Schedule with overtime: Monday to Thursday 7am-4pm and Friday 7am-3pm / Schedule without overtime: Monday to Thursday 8am-4pm and Friday 7am-3pm)
