Nestled within the 36 acres of lush gardens at Government House, the Tea House at the Cary Castle Mews is a bustling 75-seat café offering light lunches, refreshments, pastries. Primarily supported by cadre of volunteers, the tearoom is a popular destination for locals and tourists alike.

This role is a great start up opportunity to further your cooking career, with the possibility to continue as casual employment for events at Government House other within service or culinary.

Reporting to the Tea House Manager, The Cook's Assistant works under limited supervision and in accordance with daily, prioritizing, preparing, and storing of a variety of fresh ingredients prepared daily, while following all sanitary and health-related food Practices.

**SCHEDULE**

Working Hours: 10:00AM-4:00PM (Tuesday through Friday)

**ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- Produce and prepare lunch items in a detailed and timely manner each day.
- Refer to the daily prep list for food preparation.
- Follow all food safety protocols.
- Monitors and maintains cleanliness, sanitation, and organizes assigned work areas including but not limited to: washrooms, floors, and kitchen/dish area.

**KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS**
- Excellent organizational skills and shows initiative with ability to work well with little supervision, commitment to provide excellent service and exceed guests' expectations.
- A proven ability to communicate effectively, work within a team and delegate to others.
- Must exert physical effort in transporting up to fifty (50) pounds, endure various physical movements throughout work areas, reaches up and down, remains stationary at times while standing, throughout work period.
- Current **Food Safe level 1** or equivalent recognized food safety certificate.
- Willing and able to taste all food products - i.e. meats, seafood, produce, dry goods, dairy.

Wage: $20.00 - $24.00/ hour - **Kitchen Assistant - Rudi's Tea Room**

Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service, which may include criminal records check, and/or Criminal Records Review Act check, and/or enhanced security checks as required by the Ministry of Finance
