Public Skate Cruiser

The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has openings for temporary part-time Public Skate Cruisers at the Wheatley Arena, in the Parks, Fleet and Facilities division. This temporary part-time opportunity is for a period up to March 2025.
**Job description**
The Public Skating Cruiser will supervise and monitor the activities taking place on the ice during a public skating session. Rules are enforced and disciplinary measures are taken. First Aid treatment is provided. Cruisers are on the ice skating with the public to ensure it is safe for all participants.
**Essential responsibilities**
- Demonstrate Chatham-Kent’s core values and competencies
- Supervise ice surface; enforcing rules and regulations
- Effectively patrol public skating with an emphasis on the safety of the patrons while promoting leisure
- General cleaning and maintenance if required
- Provide minor first aid
- Other duties as required
**Essential qualifications**
- Because of the responsibilities of this position, applicants must be 15 years of age or older
- Able to provide excellent customer service to the public
- Must demonstrate good communication and public relations skills
- Able to work independently or in a group
- Able to work with mínimal supervision
- Excellent ice skating skills to provide supervision of public skating activities
- Position is for up to 24 hours per week which will include evenings and weekends
- All employees will be required to complete their Health & Safety and other on-line mandatory training on or before their first day of employment; other training (including Health & Safety policies) may also be required
**Other qualifications**
- Experience working with youth/children an asset
- Experience providing minor first aid an asset
**Certifications, memberships, licenses**
- Standard First Aid/CPR certification card is an asset
**Work environment/hours of work**
- This position works indoors
- This position works afternoons, evenings and weekend hours
**Municipality of Chatham-Kent COVID-19 Vaccination Policy**
The Municipality of Chatham-Kent has a mandatory vaccination policy. All new employees must be fully vaccinated as a condition of employment unless approved for an exemption.

**Essential physical and/or safety requirements**
- Walking: constant balancing (maintain balance while skating)
- Foot action: constant two foot action (must continually be in motion for 80 minutes)
**Benefits**
The temporary part-time position will receive $16.55 per hour based on the 2024 Non-Union Part-Time Compensation Plan, plus vacation and statutory benefits in accordance with Employment Standards Act.
