The Niagara-on-the-Lake Museum, owned and operated by the Niagara Historical Society, is a team of staff and volunteers that passionately collect, preserve, research, educate and promote the history of Niagara-on-the-Lake and its communities. We inspire an appreciation of local history through engaging programs and exhibitions.

**Job Title: Tiny Museum Assistant**

Duration: May 8 - August 25, 2024 (16 weeks)

Wage: $18/hour 35 hours per week

**Reporting Duties**:Reports to the Managing Director.

**Job Purpose**:The Program Assistant will organize and coordinate the summer programming at the Museum, assist with the development and delivery of the summer camp, take part in marketing activities and social media, and attend community events with the “Tiny Museum”.

**Primary Responsibilities**:

- Reach out to local interest group/festivals to secure participation of the Tiny Museum in these events; schedule driver for each event
- Pack materials and load for each event, set up displays and take down at the end of each event
- Recruit volunteers to help at outreach events
- Attend scheduled events as the Tiny Museum attendant
- Assist in the development of new exhibitions for the Tiny Museum
- Develop programming and activities to complement each exhibit and event
- Organize and catalogue collection of educational artifacts used for hands-on displays
- Assist at other Museum events and programs including our heritage festival, tours and other outreach programs as needed

**Secondary Responsibilities**:

- Answer the phone at the Museum
- Greet visitors, receive admissions, direct patrons to the Museum, answer questions by visitors
- POS entry of gift shop sales
- Pass on research requests and other questions to Managing Director of the Society
- Any other duties as required by the position

**Interaction with Patrons and Public**:

- Interact with Museum visitors
- Interact with Museum volunteers

**Working Conditions and Environment**:

- May be required to attend and assist with special events on evenings and weekends
- May be required to work offsite at community events
- Will be required to move bins and set up tent and tables during events
- May be required to work with some chemicals used for cleaning purposes

**Knowledge and Skills Required**:

- Some University/College experience required
- Must be enrolled full time and returning full time in the fall
- Education in any of the following related fields is an asset: Event Management, Education, History, Museum Studies or Arts Administration
- Excellent computer skills
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
- Good organizational skills
- Good writing skills
- First Aid training is an asset
- Experience assisting with special events
- Ability to work independently as well as part of team
- Experience scheduling social media is an asset
- Must have a valid license and have access to a vehicle
- MUST BE REGISTERED WITH YOUNG CANADA WORKS AND MEET THEIR CRITERIA
