The South Riverdale Child-Parent Centre is a non-profit family support program that has operated in the Riverdale neighbourhood for 45 years. The Centre provides programs and services that support parents/caregivers, foster development, and strengthen families and communities, including a drop-in program, toy and book libraries, workshops, and outings. The Centre also operates as an Early On site.

**Position summary**:
The Program Assistant will work alongside Program Coordinators to implement play-based, developmentally-appropriate programs and activities for children aged 0 to 6 years, along with their parents and caregivers. The Program Assistant will assist with facilitating the Saturday drop-in, and performing administrative tasks, such as maintaining Toy and Parenting Book Libraries, and collecting attendance data. The Program Assistant will communicate and interact in a professional, constructive, and collaborative manner with participants, Program Coordinators, and volunteers.

**Key Responsibilities**:
Assist with
- Welcoming and orienting new participants
- implementing activities that scaffold children’s development
- preparing snack
- facilitating a song/story circle
- providing a safe, sanitary, welcoming, and enriching program environment
- modelling positive behaviour guidance techniques
- listening empathically to participants’ concerns
- Connecting families with community resources and neighbours
- Updating bulletin boards with health news and information about local programs and resources
- Maintaining Toy and Parenting Book Libraries:

- updating records
- collecting outstanding items
- cleaning and organizing materials
- Collecting accurate attendance data
- Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized workspace

**Qualifications**:

- Is a Registered Early Childhood Educator with a good standing with the College of ECE, Social Worker or related field
- Is legally entitled to work in Ontario
- Has a clear Police Reference Check completed no earlier than 6 months prior to start date
- Has current Standard or Child First Aid and CPR Level “C” certification
- Students with disabilities, First Nations students, and Students who are members of a visible minority are encouraged to apply.

- Experience working with diverse families and community organizations using The Guiding Principles of Family Support
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Computer literacy and able to troubleshoot basic computer issues/problems
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to speak and/or write a second language

**Job Types**: Full-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 2 months

**Salary**: $18.55 per hour

Expected hours: 35 per week
