Project Manager, Ground Improvement

Come join a team of experts at Vancouver Pile Driving Ltd (Vanpile), a multi-discipline construction company that has been building marine facilities along the coastline and inland waters of British Columbia since 1913. As a Project Manager, you'll play a crucial role in overseeing and driving the success of complex construction projects from conception to completion. You'll be responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling the daily operations for ground improvement projects. You'll also prepare and monitor construction schedules, negotiate revisions and changes to contractual agreements, and review contract violations with sub-contractors. Additionally, you'll work with project administrators on billing and accounts receivable, and prepare job cost, profit, and forecasting estimates to report to accounting and management.
To be successful in this role, you'll need a University degree or diploma in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering and at least five years of applied project management experience. You'll also need to be currently registered or eligible to register with APEGBC or ASTTBC. You should have a working knowledge of ground improvement techniques, deep and shallow foundations, earth retaining structures, and driven piles, as well as experience in working with subcontractors and vendors and managing schedules to meet deadlines. Knowledge of acceptable trade standards is also important to obtain government approvals.
In addition to technical skills, you'll need to have strong coaching and mentoring skills to lead and develop more junior-level staff. You'll act as a client liaison and assist with business development of the department. You'll also efficiently deploy resources - people and equipment - for projects and demonstrate a strong commitment to Health, Safety & Environment. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are required, as well as high personal, professional, and ethical standards, leadership and mentorship qualities, initiative and sound judgment, and a collaborative, proactive, and results-oriented approach. Excellent analytical and critical thinking/problem-solving skills, along with sound prioritization/time-management skills, are also essential.
