**Pharmacy Technician Lab Coordinator**:

**Duties**:
Working with the Dean in the Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services (HSHS), and in collaboration with the Pharmacy Technician Program Coordinator (Selkirk), the Pharmacy Technician Lab Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination of the lab components of the Pharmacy Technician Diploma program at VIU, and will support faculty and students in this area. This position may also serve on the Program Advisor Board and connects with clinical partners.

Special areas of responsibility will include:

- Supporting the achievement of a safe and secure learning environment while creating and maintaining a positive learning environment at VIU.
- Collaborating with VIU pharmacy technician lab instructors and Program Coordinator (Selkirk) when required on tracking VIU student progress, addressing concerns, and monitoring corrective learning plans.
- Liaising with internal and external stakeholders of the Pharmacy Technician program, i.e. preceptors, local industry, sponsoring agents, VIU Advising, VIU Counseling, VIU Admission and Registration.
- Liaising between Selkirk College and VIU in support of the Pharmacy Technician Program.
- Collaborating with Program Coordinator (Selkirk) on program evaluations and reviews, marketing and publicity, curriculum development, professional development activities and support to instructors.
- Collaborating with the Program Assistant in VIU course timetabling and managing VIU student intake.
- Participating in the Hiring of VIU pharmacy technician lab instructors within pre-approved limits and provide training and support to instructors.
- Participating in Accreditation process under direction of the Program Coordinator (Selkirk), including preparing materials and contributing to the accreditation reporting process, final report and site visits.
- Participating in institutional committees and meetings for the Selkirk program and/or VIU HSHS faculty, as required.
- Collaborating with HSHS Finance to plan and monitor course expenditures.
- Supervising the supplies inventory

**Required Qualifications**:
Registered Pharmacist or Pharmacy Technician in good standing with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia. Pharmacy Technician certificate or diploma/or Pharmacy Degree from an appropriately accredited institution in Canada; Current and relevant industry experience (community and/or hospital pharmacy).
- Familiar with practice settings in central Vancouver Island communities;
- Solid understanding of the scope and role of pharmacy technicians in the health care system;
- Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal ways of knowing and cultural teachings;
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching, learning, and student success;
- Responsive to a diverse student population.
- Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure, independently and with a diverse team. Competence with technology, specifically MS Office and personnel databases. Strong attention to detail.
- Must possess a valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and have a confirmed satisfactory driving record.

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Preference will be given to BCGEU faculty members within the Faculty of Health Sciences and Human Services.
- The BC Provincial Instructor Diploma, or its equivalent, completed or in progress (maximum two years to completion) from an accredited institution;
