Animal Technician

Massasauga Imports is a wholesale company and breeding facility dealing exclusively with reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. We stock captive-bred and choice import animals from around the world, including many rare and exotic species. We are located 10 minutes from Acton and 15 minutes from East Guelph by car.

**About the job**:
We are looking for a part-time person to work in our animal warehouse and care for a variety of reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates, including snakes, lizards, frogs, and tarantulas. As part of the animal warehouse staff, you will be directly responsible for the health and well-being of the animals under your care. Your daily duties will include, but are not limited to, animal care, feeding, and cleaning. Although you will have daily jobs to complete, the position of an animal care technician is dynamic, and every day will present different tasks and challenges. We are looking for someone who truly cares about the well-being of animals, who is highly adaptable to different situations, and who can think on their feet.

There is a steep learning curve in the animal warehouse at Massasauga Imports and although training will be provided, previous experience is preferred. You will start off with basic responsibilities and over time you will be assigned specific tasks and to care for specific animals. We require someone who is detail oriented and who can follow very specific instructions, while also being able to think and work independently. This position requires a person who is physically fit and capable of working 8+ hour days on their feet. A reliable transportation method is also required as our location is not serviced by a bus route.

This is not a standard 9 to 5 job; however, hours are normally 9am-5pm and daily schedules are planned within this timeframe. It is important to remember that unexpected situations often arise when working with animals and all daily tasks must be completed before you leave for the day. Some weekend work may be required. For example, we participate in several reptile trade shows on weekends throughout the year where you may be asked to work, helping with set up and take down, along with selling our animals.

**Important information to keep in mind about the job**:

- You will come into contact with animal bodily fluids, sometimes this includes blood.
- You will need to feed live insects and dead rodents to animals, sometimes live rodents too.
- When working with animals there is always the chance you will be in contact with animal death.

**Job Type**: Part-time
Part-time hours: 20-30 per week

**Salary**: $16.00-$20.00 per hour
