**Associate Scientist - Discovery Protein Science (14 month contract)**

Let’s do this. Let’s change the world. In this vital role you will join our Department of Discovery Protein Science, Biologic Therapeutic Discovery, at our research facility in Burnaby, BC, Canada.
You will work in a highly integrated and collaborative team environment and contribute independently to diverse functions depending upon project needs and priority.
**Responsibilities**:
- Protein purification
- Purifying diverse mammalian cell-expressed proteins using AKTA chromatography system (including affinity purification, ion exchange, and size-exclusion chromatography).
- Protein Analytics
- SDS-PAGE, Western blotting
- HPLC-SEC analytics of purified proteins and data interpretation
- General routine laboratory activities
- Maintenance of laboratory and workstation cleanliness and organization

**Basic Qualifications**:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related discipline and 4 years of scientific laboratory experience. (need to tell Christy not 5 years, it is 4)
OR
- Master’s Degree in a scientific discipline and 2 years of laboratory experience
**Preferred Experience**:
- Training in protein biochemistry, including proficiency in protein purification methods with 2-10 years general laboratory experience having performed significant hands-on laboratory work.
- 2+ years of experience purifying proteins from E. coli, insect and/or mammalian hosts; protein expression experience is a plus
- 2+ years of experience with modern AKTA chromatography systems (FPLC) using affinity-capture and SEC chromatography steps
- Ability to follow established laboratory protocols and adhere to data standards; attention to detail and careful execution of laboratory tasks are essential to our team
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint; experience with electronic notebooks
- Must work well in a team environment and be capable of multi-tasking with flexibility
