Position Summary:
The Tremblay lab, led by Dr. Michel Tremblay, is focused on macrophages and infectious diseases as controlled by protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP). The research aims to study the role of Protein-Tyrosine-Phosphatases and other phosphatases in cancer and immunology more precisely in macrophage biology using in vitro and in vivo models. Research Associate will be expected to conduct fundamental research in collaboration with other laboratory staff members and under the supervision of Prof. Tremblay.
The research associate will be responsible for:
- Conduct research on macrophages and infectious diseases as controlled by protein tyrosine phosphatase (PTP).- Collaborate with the Principal Investigator (PI) to write a CIHR grant proposal related to macrophages and innate immunity against cancer, due in the winter and spring term of 2024.- Collaborate with other PIs (Dr. Teodoro's lab) on the active CIHR grant related to virus and immune response with PTP-PTPs, and manage the grant in collaboration with the Teodoro lab.- Represents the lab by attending Canadian Meeting of Immunology, and to present research results. Present on research progress to lab members and graduate students.- Present and describe your research work within the affiliated departments, including Immuno-microbiology, Biochemistry, Oncology, and the Experimental Medicine program.- Train and mentor new undergraduate students in the research program on PTP and immune response.- Mentor graduate students working on macrophage signaling and their role in anticancer activities.- Review and provide feedback on research papers authored by graduate students in the laboratory related to innate immunity.- Organize and facilitate weekly lab meetings focusing on immunology.- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Experience working with macrophages, including primary macrophages and macrophage cell lines.- Excellent knowledge of macrophage polarization, activation, and functional assays.- Knowledge of cancer immunotherapy and immunosuppressive mechanisms within the tumor.- Expertise in the study of tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) and their impact on cancer progression.- Excellent knowledge in the field of phosphatases and their role in cancer.
Other qualifying skills and abilities- Proficiency in a range of laboratory techniques, including cell culture, flow cytometry, ELISA, qPCR, Western blotting, and immunohistochemistry.- Strong knowledge of research methodologies, experimental design, and data analysis techniques specific to immunology- Experience in conducting various immunological assays, such as cytokine profiling, cell proliferation assays, and immunofluorescence staining.- Ability to work collaboratively in a team, as research often involves interdisciplinary collaboration.
