**Job description**
Private Treatment Centre is seeking an overnight Counsellor to work at our residential facility in Cookstown, Ontario.
**Duties/Responsibilities**:
- Monitor the treatment centre during evenings and overnights, in the absence of full-time staff
- Ensure facility is secured at all times
- Awareness of the location of the residents at all times during shift
- Ensuring that medication and related supplies are properly stored, and accounted for through accurate documentation
- Ensure that the facilities locks, latches and other security devices are working properly
- Interact with residents consistent with individual treatment needs and treatment plans
- Communicate in an empathic, compassionate, sensitive and skilled manner with residents while on shift
- Make referrals to internal and/or external programs or services, as appropriate
- Inform manager of any crisis situation
- Attend all mandatory training programs and monthly team meeting
- Complete required documentation such as the electronic log, program notes, and Incident Reports
- Other duties as assigned
**Physical Requirements**:This job requires the incumbent to remain awake at all times during the shift and by ready to assist residents as required
**Qualifications**:
- Minimum education: college diploma specific to addictions and mental health training and an addiction counselling certificate (eg: ICADC from CACCF).
- Knowledge of social work, psychology and addiction counselling best practices and a proven ability to work in an intensive, residential treatment environment.
- Minimum of 1 years of experience working as an addictions counsellor.
- Residential experience is an asset
- Current First Aid and CPR training certificates.
- Suicide Prevention and Crisis Intervention training is an asset.
- Able to work independently and provide detailed and accurate daily reports.
- Maintain knowledge, skills, and abilities by keeping up to date regarding professional standards through reviewing current literature, attending workshops/seminars and networking with colleagues.
- Valid "G" license and clean driver's abstract
**Willing to obtain a Vulnerable Sector Police Check**
