- As a Business Strategist, you will be responsible for to drive the strategic planning and oversight of Planning & Development Services (PDS), guiding both the development and implementation of the departmental vision, mission, strategic themes, and goals. Your work will be Council directed, reflecting issues that impact Calgarians and that contribute to the departmental and corporate strategic mandates. Primary duties include:
- Develop and manage relationships and expectations of external and internal audiences while building cross-corporate collaboration to gather information on emerging issues/gaps, industry trends and innovations.
- Manage plans for the portfolios of work across service lines and business units within PDS to align with approved Service Plans & Budgets to achieve initiatives and turn the curve on identified performance measures and adjusting work plans based on analysis of community indicators.
- Compile four-year Service Plans & Budgets report for PDS, as well as performance and budget adjustment reports to Council.
- Work with management Service and Oversight Committees to determine strategic direction and outcomes for use in drafting the annual Accountability Plan and related work plans for the department.
- Prioritize, build consensus and use influence to lead, consult and advise PDS Senior Management, Service Stewards and committees regarding strategic elements of the department's business.
- Facilitate and lead strategic direction discussions and planning sessions, action planning, and identification of performance measure dialogues with management. Write reports and present analysis and strategic recommendations to management.
- Coordinate monthly meetings to support service line strategic direction and departmental oversight. Prepare and plant questions to facilitate discussions. Circulate meeting minutes, presentations and related materials.
- Interprets and coordinate the translation and implementation of Council direction and policy recommendations into operational procedure and processes.
**Qualifications**
- A degree in public administration, business, accounting, economics, planning, political science, finance, or related discipline plus at least 5 years of related experience; OR
- A master's degree in business administration, public administration or related field plus at least 1 year of experience.
- An advanced level of proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) is required.
- Experience in qualitative and quantitative research and analysis and council report writing will be considered assets.
- Strong facilitation, analytical and problem-solving skills, strategic planning, political acumen, awareness of audiences and the ability to prioritize, build consensus and influence without authority.
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills to build and maintain relationships.

- Compensation: Pay Grade 11 $43.35 - 57.96 per hour (2024 Rates)
- Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
