Leeds & Grenville Interval House is a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to providing services to women and children who have experienced violence & abuse. LGIH provides emergency shelter, counselling and supportive services to women and their children living in the United Counties of Leeds & Grenville.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Outreach Manager, the Outreach Worker supports the needs of abused and at-risk women by:

- Developing safety strategies or plans for women and their dependents
- Providing of information on rights, options, and available services
- Providing outreach to women including promoting additional shelter services
- Developing and monitoring transition plans identifying client goals
- Providing referrals and advocacy in areas such as long-term counselling, parenting support, job training, health and wellness services, cultural interpretation, legal processes
- Assisting women who are fleeing violent / abusive relationships to increase safety for themselves and their dependents, prevent re-victimization and take steps to rebuild their lives
- Identifying the needs of abused and at-risk women and assist in the development of appropriate services offered by LGIH and other community-based services.
- Providing supportive/educational groups and conduct follow-ups with group participants
- Providing support as requested by the client - viewing housing, court/lawyer accompaniment, and family visits
- Assisting and supporting women in navigating the legal system
- Developing and maintaining strong working relations with public housing and other housing programs available
- Working with women residing in public housing to continue to maintain their housing unit
- Promoting and encouraging LGIH Outreach Program in the community
- Participating in pro-active initiatives related to existing and potential housing options

Qualifications:

- Post-secondary education with a college diploma or university degree in a related field such as social work, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in the VAW sector working directly with clients (3-5 years)
- Case management experience (3-5 years)
- Counselling experience from a client centred, trauma-informed, feminist perspective (2 years)
- Demonstrated abilities in communication, creativity, teamwork, flexibility, and adaptability, accountability, strategic and collaborative thinking
- Understanding and knowledge of both women’s and children’s needs and issues, impacts of violence against women and children, barriers to safety, disabilities, diverse cultures, mental health, and addictions
- Current CPR and First aid training an asset
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Checks (PVSC) with future checks every three (3) years
- Must have a valid driver’s license
- Must have access to a vehicle

- Ability to organize, coordinate, and prioritize own work
- Ability to make decisions under pressure
- Ability to work professionally and effectively with complex/at-risk clients with professional, agency and legal requirements
- Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with conflict situations and use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioural management techniques
- Ability to initiate and follow through on programs/projects and work with mínimal supervision
- Ability to communicate effectively and empathetically both written and verbal
- Ability to operate a personal computer with a variety of windows-based software and other office equipment
- Ability to speak a second language an asset
