We have an immediate need in our High-Crest Place Location in New Glasgow to join our dietary services team.

JOB SUMMARY:
1. The cooks are responsible to the Dietary Supervisor for the preparation of meals, including baked goods in sufficient quantities to satisfy requirements for the day.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Education: Journeyman Cook papers or previous experience in quantity cooking required.
2. Must have knowledge and practice sanitation and safety measures needed working in a commercial kitchen.
3. Food Handlers course (renewed every 3 years)
4. Knowledge of special diets i.e. Diabetic, Low Fat, and High Fibre considered an asset.

**REQUIREMENTS**:
1. Must be physically and mentally able to perform the duties with a minimum of supervision.
2. Must be able to work under stress and demonstrate maturity, flexibility, and responsibility to be dependable and reliable
3. Must demonstrate ability, initiative and good work ethics.
4. Must have the ability to maintain good relations within the department and work co‐operatively with other departments.
5. Must accept verbal and written orders.
6. Must possess good organizational & time management skills.
7. Must possess good communication skills, written and verbal.
8. Must exhibit empathy and understanding of elderly residents and their needs
9. Must present a neat, professional and clean appearance

JOB DUTIES
1. Prepare raw foods for cooking (meats, vegetables, fruits)
2. Baking pastries (bread, biscuits, pies, cookies, cakes, other desserts)
3. Preparation of sandwiches, soups, salads, special lunches.
4. Setting up of steam table for transport to wings
5. Portion and serve foods according tp prescribed methods and preferences ensuring diet orders are followed.
6. Maintain work area - washing pots, pans, dishes used in meal preparation.
7. Ensure storage areas are kept neat, clean and in order.
8. Advise supervisor of any problems with menu, equipment or other job related duties
9. Any other related duties assigned by supervisor.
10. Aware of WHMIS and Health & Safety
11. Attend regular staff meetings and in‐services and upgrading when offered.
12. Know and understand shop rules and policy procedures for dietary department
13. Make occasional calls for shift call ins

WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Atmosphere may be warm or noisy at times.
2. Must be able to withstand long periods, of standing, walking and lifting.
3. May have to work under stressful conditions.

**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent

**Salary**: $22.30-$22.47 per hour

- 12 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
