**Position Purpose**

The successful applicant will assist the Heritage Coordinator with the ongoing cataloging of artifacts in the museum’s collection. **_For full details, please see attached job description._**

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check, deemed as satisfactory by the Town;
- Current Certification in Basic First Aid and CPR “C”;
- Applicants falling between ages of 15 years and 30 years are preferred in order to meet the Youth Eligibility Requirements for the Canada Summer Jobs Grant;

**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Title**:Curatorial Assistant

**Position #**:ST 19

**Reports To**:Manager of Client and Cultural Services

**Position Summary**

Assist the Heritage Coordinator with the ongoing cataloging of artifacts in the museum’s collection, including descriptions, photographing and database entry.

**Responsibilities**
- Photographing and measuring artifacts, rehousing portions of the collection in appropriate cartons with identification labels, crafting robust written descriptions of the artifacts;
- Working in a similar capacity with the archival collection, on occasion;
- Working with the Heritage Coordinator in migrating collections records to new museum software, with an end goal of bringing the collection catalogue online;
- Assisting the Heritage Coordinator with new acquisitions, such as speaking with potential donors and completion of appropriate paperwork;
- Assisting the Heritage Coordinator in making recommendations to the Georgina Historical Society on matters related to the collection;
- Preparing a work plan to carry out objectives by the end of the work term;
- Working with the collection using correct handling procedures;
- Assisting other staff in programming and maintenance of programming and exhibit space. Housekeeping routines and organization of the collection space will be one priority for the Curatorial Assistant;
- Supporting the work of other summer staff by sharing resources and ideas whenever necessary. The Curatorial Assistant will assist and make recommendations to their colleagues, to creatively utilize the collection to improve on the visitor experience, whether in person or virtually;
- Providing continual feedback to the employer regarding the employee's personal work experience and make viable recommendations on how to improve this experience in the future;

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Familiarity with a museum, heritage, cultural, or non-profit organization, is an asset, as is the ability to work both independently and in a team environment;
- A valid driver's license or access to transportation is required as the museum is not on a public transportation route;
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check, deemed as satisfactory by the Town;
- Current Certification in Basic First Aid and CPR “C”;
- Applicants must be between ages of 15 years and 30 years in order to meet the Youth Eligibility Requirements for the Canada Summer Jobs Grant;
