**Indigenous Lead***

**The lead will be instrumental in working with both Niagara Catholic staff, students and families in collaboration with the Indigenous Community. The Lead will work within the framework of the Ontario First nations, Metis and Inuit Policy Framework (2007), the Implementation Plan 2014, the Third progress report (2018), as well as the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action to develop strategies that will**:

- **Increase the capacity of the education system to respond to the learning and cultural needs of First Nation, Metis, and Inuit students;****:

- **Provide quality programs, services and resources to help create learning opportunities for First Nation, Metis and Inuit students that support improved academic achievement and identify building;****:

- **Provide a curriculum that facilitates learning about contemporary and traditional First Nation, Metis and Inuit cultures, histories and perspectives among all students, and that also contributes to the education of school board staff, teachers and elected trustees.***

**WHAT YOU BRING**:

- The incumbent must be of Indigenous heritage (i.e., Turtle Island-First Nations Status and non-status, Metis or Inuit) and have strong ties to Indigenous community.
- Completion of a college or university degree preferably with a focus on Indigenous studies and/or related experience working and collaborating with First Nation, Metis and Inuit students, families, communities and organizations.
- Experience collaborating and or leading a multi-disciplinary team.
- Mental health certifications or training is an asset, such as Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, and SafeTALK.
- Demonstrated leadership, planning, analytical, and problem solving skills.
- The proven ability to work effectively within a team environment.
- Excellent communication, coordination and organizational skills.***

**RESPONSIBILITIES OF INDIGENOUS LEAD**:

- Support the Mission, Vision and Values of the Niagara Catholic District School Board
- Support the strategic directions of the Niagara Catholic District School Board’s Multi-Year Strategic Plan: Listening, Learning, and Leading.
- Support the implementation of the Ontario First Nation, Metis, and Inuit Education Policy Framework and Implementation Plan, as well as the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action;
- Work closely with Indigenous Education Advisory Council to develop and implement Board Action Plans;
- Collaborate and liaise with local First Nation, Métis and Inuit communities, organizations, students and families;
- Participate in community events representing Niagara Catholic District School Board and encourage staff and students to participate.
- Support efforts to build the knowledge and awareness of all students about Indigenous histories, cultures, perspectives and contributions;
- Support the implementation of voluntary and confidential Indigenous self-identification policies for the Board and reviewing the policy as needed;
- Develop a Board Action Plan that will include programs and initiatives aligned with the strategies and actions identified in the Implementation Plan;
- Participate in the development of the Board Implementation Plan for Student Achievement and Well-Being
- Facilitate professional development opportunities for teaching staff to assist them in incorporating culturally appropriate pedagogy into practice to support Indigenous student achievement, well-being, and success;
- Develop school strategies that are culturally informed and welcoming for Indigenous students and their Indigenous communities;
- Advise staff on the integration of Indigenous perspectives, the sensitivity to Indigenous learning styles and worldviews and traditions within the school boards’ programs as per the Ontario Ministry of Education Guidelines and Policies.
- Foster student knowledge and appreciation of contemporary and traditional First Nation, Metis and Inuit traditions, cultures and perspectives
- Improve the achievement levels for Indigenous students;
- Complete related Ministry of Education and Board reports
- All other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Education.

This is a full-time position.

**HOURS**:Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

**LOCATION**:Catholic Education Centre, Welland, ON

**SALARY RANGE**:$100,787.75-$106,925.45
