**The opportunity**:
Under general supervision, the Cabinetmaker /Carpenter is responsible for performing all work expected of a fully qualified Carpenter which includes (but is not exclusive to) performing the following tasks to the standards outlined in the National Occupational Analysis: Uses and maintains tools and equipment, Performs safety related tasks, Uses building materials, Fabricates and installs cabinets, counters and furniture as per drawings and specifications, Repairs and maintains cabinets, counters and furniture as required, Provides fine woodwork finishing where required, Estimates time and materials for fabrication of cabinets, counters and furniture,

Performs carpenters duties as assigned, Performs other related duties as assigned, Sprays lacquer on finished furniture, Fabricates solid surface material, Installs mouldings, Use personal protective equipment.

**The qualifications and experience we’re looking for**:

- The minimum qualifications necessary for acceptable (satisfactory) job performance are: - Red Seal: Cabinet Maker/Carpenter.
- VET qualification (i.e., Vocational Education and Training)
- At least eight years' experience in fabrication of cabinets, furniture making and general woodworking
- Education to an acceptable level
- Must hold a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver's License
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Must be able to communicate and follow instructions in English (verbal and written)
- Must be able to work independently or in teams with mínimal supervision.
- Must have good organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to use all wood-working machines in Department and maintain same
- Ability to estimate and fabricate furniture and general woodwork as designed.
- Must be experienced in blueprint reading and interpretation of plans and specifications
- Knowledge and ability to work safely and properly with all power tools in Department
- Regular attendance and punctuality required.
- Will be required to provide acceptable Criminal Record and Vulnerable Persons Registry Check. Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- The work environment across the University includes high rise buildings, academic and research facilities with laboratories, libraries, lecture theatres, office spaces, residences for students and recreational space for an active staff and student population of approximately 40,000.
- Industrial spaces also exist for essential campus services including high pressure steam and high voltage electrical distribution, water storm and waste networks, as well as tunnels, confined and restricted access spaces.
- The full ranges of municipal services are delivered across campus including mail, parcel and parts delivery, garbage and recycling pickup, snow removal and roads and grounds maintenance.
- Outdoor spaces are included in the work environment and the inherent climactic conditions include winter and summer temperature variations that range from extreme cold to extreme heat.
- Most work is physically demanding and some work environments present hazards that involve safe work procedures and precautions.
- Must be physically capable of performing the duties as assigned.
- Must be able to pass required FIT assessment and related safety training. Must be able to work in awkward, confined spaces and high locations.
- Must be able to perform related duties as assigned.
