Groundskeeper

**Reports to**: Operations Manager

**Wage**: $18.00/hr

**Position Requirements**:
The Groundskeeper is responsible for upkeep and maintenance of all enclosures and facilities throughout the zoo property, maintaining the quality standards of accredited zoological practices. Responsibilities include assisting with yard work, garbage removal, janitorial duties, building maintenance, and related duties as required. The Groundskeeper may be required to work with or within other departments. The Groundskeeper will adhere to all health and safety regulations, legislation and policies as reviewed during the orientation period and as directed by GVZoo staff.

**Key Responsibilities to assist with**:
1) Perform standard cleaning activities, including janitorial.

2) Cleaning the Zoo grounds, including collecting trash, mowing lawns, leaf blowing, etc.

3) Removing garbage from bins and throughout all areas of the Zoo.

4) Cleaning washrooms in the morning and maintain them throughout the day.

5) Operating and maintaining various power equipment required for landscaping.

6) Ushering guests from the Zoo grounds at closing. Will be required to gently remind the public and will coordinate with admissions staff during this time.

7) Perform minor repairs and maintenance such as replacing broken locks, changing light bulbs, repairing fences and gates etc.

8) Assist if needed with installation of appliances, office equipment, etc.

9) Maintain functionality of safety systems.

10) Adhere to all GVZoo and department policies and practices.

11) Observe condition of Zoo grounds and equipment and report relevant information as appropriate. Inspect Zoo grounds for any hazards to our animals, staff and public.

12) Act in a courteous and professional manner toward all Zoo visitors and workers.

13) Follow all GVZoo policies and procedures. Comply with all WorkSafe safety regulations and procedures. Maintain a safe work environment for both staff and general public.

14) Project a professional image while on GVZoo grounds.

15) Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.

**Qualifications**:

- Highschool diploma or equivalent.
- Experience with hand and power tools, and general machinery.
- Experience in performing routine maintenance.
- Ability to multitask and maintain attention to detail.
- Organizational and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team.
- The above listed tasks are the responsibilities of all Operations Groundskeepers employed by the GVZoo. Operations Groundskeepers are not limited to the tasks listed above and may be required to perform additional tasks as assigned by Management and Supervisors._

This is a permanent position, part-time or full-time positions available.
