**School Counsellor/Mental Health Promotion**

**Open To**: Open Competition

**Job Location**:Academic Services Office - 345 Livingstone Street East, Barrie, with travel throughout the school district

**Position Type/Hours**:Temporary 1.0 FTE, 35 hours per week, aligning with school year and school holidays (including time off in July and August) Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm, 35 hours weekly, plus overtime as required. Please note that some evening work is required to support school events throughout the school year.

Effective March 3, 2025 - March 1, 2026

**Annual Compensation**: $ 54,436 to $ 89,390 commensurate with education, skills and experience.

The School Counsellor/Mental Health Promotion position is responsible for supporting mental health promotion and prevention activities for elementary and secondary students across our school board. This role involves in-person engagement within schools and collaboration with the Psychological Services team under the direction of the Mental Health Lead. Additionally, the position facilitates mental health group programs focused on psychoeducation and skill-building for students in grades 4 through 12. The role also involves working collaboratively with the Mental Health Lead to develop and maintain mental health promotion resources for students, educators, and families, including websites, social media, and newsletters. As a member of the Psychological Services team, this position supports student well-being and contributes to the achievement of the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board’s vision and mission.

**Required Skills and Qualifications**:
❖ A degree in Psychology, Social Work or a related field from an accredited University (please include photocopy with your resume package), at the Bachelor level and registration or eligibility for registration with a professional college, plus 3 to 5 years of related experience is preferred.

❖ Experience supporting children and youth in an educational environment is preferred

❖ Knowledge of effective mental health and wellness promotion activities and experience with student engagement

❖ Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

❖ Proficient in computer and social media skills, with the ability to maintain websites, manage social media accounts, and create presentation materials.

❖ Strong collaboration skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

❖ Experience working with individuals from culturally diverse populations using identity-affirming practices.

❖ Experience facilitating psychoeducational groups for children and youth, as well as providing information to parents/caregivers and school staff.

❖ Experience working with students who have exceptional learning needs, including students with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

❖ Availability to work in person and some evenings throughout the school year to support school events.
