**Duties - Residential Worker**

The Residential Worker is responsible, on a shift basis, for providing therapeutic care to adolescents or children within the foster care home setting. The worker shall provide for the emotional, social, physical, and intellectual needs of adolescents/children**. Must be able to be physically active and participate in activities with clients.**

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Cooperate with a team approach and support families in implementing program goals and direction.

Must have the ability to interact in activities and maintain a high energy

Must like children

Must have the ability to maintain a home like environment, will involve daily cleaning of the residence, cooking meals, participating in activities.

MUST HAVE A VALID DRIVERS LICENCE
- must have an updated medical and Covid Vaccinations
- Comply with all program policies and procedures.
- Maintain working knowledge of all pertinent legislation.
- Represent the program/agency in a positive and professional manner within the community.
- Support families in actualizing outcome-based treatment plans for residents.
- Plan, prepare and conduct group or individual counselling sessions with clients (under key worker guidance and direction).
- Exhibit knowledge and skill by using clinical techniques, when dealing with youth, to control acting out and aggressive behavior.
- Develop and maintain a trusting relationship with youth.
- Provide a positive role model; teach clients effective social and interpersonal skills through tasks of daily living and social activities.
- Provide and participate in recreational activities designed to meet the needs, capabilities, and interest of children/adolescents.
- Keep daily written logs that provide relevant clinical and observational aspects while children/ adolescents are in residence.
- Maintain a thorough knowledge of community resources to meet the client’s needs; provide liaison, education and advocacy to other professionals, agencies and communities and maintain positive relationships.
- Encourage and maintain youth in school programs or alternatives and outreach.
- Attend, and actively participate in, agency training.
- Perform household chores and maintenance as requested.

**Qualifications**:
**Must be able to speak English. Speaking French would be an additional assets.**
- University Degree in psychology, social work, recreation or Child and youth studies or a degree in a related studies, Child-Care Worker Diploma, ECE, Recreation or equivalent combination of comparable experience and education.

Must be able to demonstrate a degree or diploma post secondary education
- One to three year’s work/placement in a similar environment; direct experience in the community social services sector with a working knowledge of community-based treatment and intervention of youth.
- Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certificate.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and vehicle required.
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Security Clearance.

**Additional Information**:
This position is required to work in environments often dealing with children/youth in high emotional distress. The ability to react clearly and quickly in crisis situations, and maintain control of the environment and your emotions is essential**.**

**Hours of Work**:
As scheduled, 3 hours to a maximum of 12 hours per shift. Must be able to work all shifts, including overnights and weekends, must be able to work alone or in a team. Hours of work in this field are 7 days a week 12 months a year. The programs never close. Time off is scheduled through vacation. Vacation time is allowed after 3 months of employment.

**Salary**: $53,761.00-$63,762.00 per year
