Job Summary

The Turgeon Lab within CORE is seeking a Clinical Research Coordinator to support planning, organizing, implementing, and coordinating the activities of a 5-year, multi-phase, multi-centre program of research entitled “Integration of Shared Decision-Making in Heart Failure Pharmacotherapy”. This program aims to develop and evaluate a decision support intervention, including a web-based decision aid, to improve the integration of shared decision-making in the medication management of people living with heart failure.

The Turgeon Lab functions under the umbrella of the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences Collaboration for Outcomes Research and Evaluation (CORE) unit, a multidisciplinary group of researchers with expertise in clinical pharmacy, pharmacoepidemiology, health economics, health services research, program evaluation and health promotion research.

Organizational Status

Reports directly to the Principal Investigator, Dr. Ricky Turgeon.

Work Performed

Project management:
- Coordinates prospective studies, including randomized controlled trials, with efficiency and quality.- Develops policies and procedures in regards of current and prospective studies.- Oversees research program budget and forecasting; maximizes use of resources and ensures expenditures adhere to institutional guidelines- Responsible for research planning and coordination of timelines on deadline-driven research projects ensuring they are met- Coordinates training and project teams for specific projects and research-related events- Supervises data collection and ensures quality and integrity of data. Archives data when necessary.- Responsible for data storage, data access and usage among research team members- Supports students with project logistics, navigating systems, etc. Provides orientation and mentorship when needed.- Ensures safety procedures and guidelines are followed in the lab at all times.

Research:
- Creates and manages data collection methodologies, instruments, and databases- Provides input into recruiting eligible participants with or at risk for heart failure for clinical trials- Develops formats for data gathering to facilitate data collection- Performs data analysis and interpretation of data- Perform literature searches and synthesis for grants, manuscripts, talks, etc.- Develops scientific communications and materials required for research, including seminars and conferences

Communications:
- Acts as the contact person for the Turgeon Lab and oversees communications on behalf of the Turgeon Lab with the Faculty, across the university, the general public and internationally.- Liaises with research participants to develop and maintain relationships- Liaises with clinical and community partners and organizations to develop and maintain relationships for the purpose of participant recruitment and knowledge translation- Interviews students, volunteers and other personnel and provides recommendations to Dr. Turgeon.

And performs other related duties as assigned.

Consequence of Error/Judgement

Inappropriate judgement would compromise the quality of research studies and related data acquisition and the reporting of research outcomes. Poor financial decisions would affect the ability of the Turgeon Lab to manage its resources effectively that would result in research projects being delayed or cancelled altogether. Inappropriate judgement would compromise research success and affect the credibility of the Principal Investigator and the overall research program.
