Janitor/maintenance

**Position Summary**

The Janitor-Maintenance worker will be responsible for performing general building and property cleaning at Home Base's various facilities in Kingston, ON as well as general Maintenance of the buildings. The Janitor/Maintenance worker will be responsible for performing highly diversified duties: clean, paint, install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain Home Base's properties and facility equipment.

- Be willing to participate in a rotating On-Call schedule.
- Have a valid driver’s license.
- Be able to obtain a vulnerable sector police check.
- Have a WHMIS Certification.

**Job Duties**
- General cleaning of the buildings
- Sweep, vacuum and mop the floor
- Sanitize restrooms
- Empty trash, recycling, and compost
- Wash windows, inside and outside
- Make sure the establishment is clean and meets all safety requirements
- Wash walls, ceilings, and light fixtures regularly
- Provides both scheduled and emergency/unscheduled repairs of facilities and equipment.
- Reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Diagnoses problems, replaces or repairs parts, tests and makes adjustments.
- Performs regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and facilities.
- Performs a variety of plumbing maintenance and carpentry functions.
- Uses a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters and material handling equipment in performing duties.
- Detects faulty operations, defective material and reports those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
- Complies with safety regulations and maintains clean and orderly work areas.
- Performs all other duties as assigned or needed.
- Prepares, paints and decorates interior and exterior surfaces as required.
- Operates grounds-keeping power equipment and maintain external property.
- Performs minor construction work, e.g., dismantling and erecting walls, finishes carpentry work, pouring concrete, etc.
- Troubleshoots, repairs, installs, and maintains various electrical components, appliances and equipment.
- Troubleshoots, installs, and repairs plumbing fixtures, piping, and related equipment.
- Performs necessary work to open clogged sewer lines.

**Requirements**:

- High school diploma/GED
- Completion of a craft apprenticeship, or an equivalent number of years of education and Maintenance Coordination experience is an asset
- Possess a valid driver's license.
- Highly motivated and able to work independently.
- Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times.
- Ability to multi-task and establish priorities.

**Work Conditions**
- Rotating on-call shifts.
- Physical ability to lift up to 75lb.
- Travel to the site, and off-site locations will be required.
- Hazards associated with the trade.
- Work both indoors and outdoors.
