**TITLE**:Laboratory Technician

**POSITION OVERVIEW**: Laboratory Technicians are responsible for preparing, setting up, and cleaning lab materials, including equipment and supplies. Laboratory Technicians also answer student questions in lab and field trip exercises. Thus, Laboratory technician duties include ordering, testing, and maintaining laboratory equipment; keeping up-to-date budget spreadsheets, inventory lists, and lab prep sheets; ensuring lab safety procedures are followed; answering student questions during labs; and accompanying students on field trips.

**REQUIREMENTS**
- A recent graduate with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree specializing in Biology and Chemistry, with strong math skills
- Recent WHMIS certification
- Strong understanding of a combination of first
- and second-year science courses (Biology and Chemistry)
- Laboratory experience
- Excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility, and ability to work alone or as part of a team.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Preparing, setting up, and putting away lab materials, equipment, and supplies.
- Answering student questions during labs.
- Accompanying students on field trips.
- Communicating with faculty regarding weekly laboratory preparation
- Ordering, receiving, and disposing of equipment, materials, and waste.
- Testing and maintaining lab and safety equipment.
- Maintaining budget spreadsheets, lab prep sheets, maintenance and testing schedules, and inventory spreadsheets.
- Updating SDS files, safety manuals, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Writing term and annual reports on costs per student, accomplishments, areas of improvement, and outstanding tasks.

Pay: From $26.67 per hour

Expected hours: 30 - 40 per week
