Emergency Management British Columbia (EMCR) is the lead coordinating agency in the provincial government for all emergency management activities, responsible to British Columbians for leading the management of provincial level emergencies and disasters and supporting other authorities within their areas of jurisdiction. EMCR works directly with local governments, Indigenous Nations, provincial ministries and agencies, federal departments, other jurisdictions, industry and volunteers in hazard mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. EMCR’s province-wide emergency management program front-line services are provided by regional managers located in key locations throughout the province.

The Emergency Management Technician supports the British Columbia emergency management structure including planning, preparedness, response and recovery at the regional level, as well as the integration of key regional stakeholders and maintains critical linkages to local government, provincial and federal staff, First Nations, industry, volunteers and the public.

The Emergency Management Technician assists the Regional Manager with daily operations including search and rescue, road rescue, emergency social services and dangerous goods incidents. As a Provincial Regional Emergency Operations Centre (PREOC) Command Staff member, the position may direct multi-disciplinary teams of staff, provincial ministries, and contractors during planning, preparedness, response and recovery. The position assists by maintaining the operational readiness of a PREOC, including 24/7 staff availability, and participates in Temporary Emergency Assignment Management System (TEAMS) member training and exercising.

**Job Requirements**:

- University Degree in a related field (e.g. Business Administration, Emergency Management, Public Administration, Natural Resource Management, etc.) and 2 years directly *related experience; **OR**:

- Technical Diploma in a related field (e.g. Business Administration, Emergency Management, Public Administration, Natural Resource Management, etc.) and minimum 4 years directly *related experience; **OR**:

- An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
- **Related experience must include all of the following**:

- Experience in the development of procedures, standards and guidelines.
- Experience in leading a team, addressing strategic initiatives and coordinating multi-agency committees or working groups.
- Experience dealing with natural hazards, risk assessment and emergency response.
- Financial Administration experience.

**Preference may be given to applicants with experience in one or more of the following areas**:

- Experience working and engaging with First Nations communities and/or organizations.
- Experience in the delivery of operational requirements and delivery of training programs.
- Experience with emergency software.
- Experience and training with Incident Command System.
- BC Emergency Management Systems (BCEMS) training.
- Travel occasionally.
- Work on-call and extended hours during emergency activations and participate in operational deployments throughout the province.
