**Wage Range**:$23.00 - $24.00 per hour for 35 hours a week

This position provides childminding support to newcomer and refugee children whose parents or caregivers are presently using our services.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:

- facilitates access to settlement services that include engaging children and youth in fun-filled activities to integrate them into Canadian society;
- works with program staff to provide a safe and nurturing environment for the children to play in and be cared for while their parents are participating in group activities;
- prepares and sets up age-appropriate equipment and activities for the children attending;
- prepares and serves snacks to the children;
- sets the environment and implements activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of the children in the program;
- maintains a working knowledge of child-related issues and community services;
- helps parents increase their knowledge of child development and parenting skills through role modeling, sharing resources and teachable moments;
- provides a supportive and nurturing relationship with the parents and caregivers of the children;
- introduces immigrant and refugee newcomer parents to Canadian child-rearing practices; and
- performs other duties, as assigned.

**Knowledge and Experience**
- Early Childhood Certificate or a minimum of two years of childminding experience caring for children between the ages of birth to 6 years of age;
- current Child Safe or level 1 First Aid Certificate;
- Food Safe is an asset; and
- second language an asset.

- ability to identify sensitive issues and maintain confidentiality; and
- understand the ethical responsibility to protect children and the duty to report.

**Other Attributes and Requirements**
- reliable vehicle insured for business use with $2 million liability and clean drivers abstract; and
- clean Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector).
