**Overview of Position**:
The Transitional Housing Worker is a temporary contract position of 30 hours per week. The position will cover a leave until July 12, 2024, with the possibility of extension. Any changes to the contract will be given with four weeks’ notice.

The Transitional Housing Worker will support youth around their housing insecurity to better navigate and connect with services and pro-social opportunities in their communities to improve personal outcomes. The worker will work one to one with residents as part of the YES team to assist in empowering youth to acquire for themselves long-term housing, employment or other income supports, education, access to support agencies, family and natural supports, and life skills in daily living, as determined by the resident and worker.

The role involves direct client support, case management, advocacy, life skills coaching, situational crisis intervention and community capacity building work.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Collaborate with the YES youth housing team on resident placement, Individual Plans and case coordination
- Support a culturally safe and enhancing home for diverse youth
- Teach or arrange training in basic life skills for residents (laundry, budgeting, cleaning, cooking)
- Manage weekly house meetings with a shared meal, organize other shared activities
- Work alongside residents to ensure the overall upkeep and cleanliness of facility, grounds and outbuildings including inspections of room and premises to optimize health & safety as needed
- Manage and work to resolve any issues in the house (including conflict resolution), and provide crisis intervention in situations of conflict at the house, or for medical and psychiatric emergencies/recent trauma
- Support youth to connect with programs, services and opportunities for healthy development by:

- Helping individuals to identify their needs, goals, aspirations, skills and abilities as well as barriers to accessing services.
- Providing individuals with general information, contacts, referrals and support as needed to build assets and address needs (e.g., housing, employment, education, health care and recreation; social and emotional issues).
- Maintain collaborative working relationships with professionals within and outside of the organization
- Enter and maintain accurate statistical service data, and client contact notes in the designated databases
- Ability to work evenings and weekends (All positions will need to work one full weekend every six weeks four hours each day, the Weekend Worker will work every other weekend)
- Carry out other duties as assigned

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum educational requirements:

- BSW from an accredited university, with 2 years experience in a related field, or
- CYW, SSW, MHAW Diploma from an accredited college, with 3 years experience in a related field, or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to the life experiences and diverse needs, identities and cultural background of at risk youth
- Proven ability to deal effectively with crisis situations and to identify, assess, and intervene differentially with youth in crisis
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English with excellent interpersonal skills
- Proven problem solving skills
- Knowledge of community resources
- Demonstrated ability to work alone and collaboratively within a team
- Training in motivational interviewing and/or case management an asset
- Experience working in transitional or supportive housing setting, or in a client-support role
- Ability to work weekends (requirement of one full weekend every six weeks, minimum of four hours per day)
- Ability to climb stairs and lift up to 20lbs

**Required Certifications**:

- Standard First Aid and CPR Level C
- NVCI (or equivalent)
- WHMIS (or equivalent)
- Valid “G” driver’s license; access to a reliable vehicle an asset.
- Must provide criminal records check (with vulnerable sectors search), KHCAS check and sign an oath of confidentiality.
