The Playschool Teacher’s Assistant will assist the Playschool Teacher in planning and implementing lesson plans, leading small and large groups of children, and help maintain a safe, clean, and healthy classroom environment.
- Must have Level 2 Alberta Child Care Staff Certification.
- Must have current Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check (issued no longer than six months before start date).
- Must have or obtain current First Aid with CPR & AED Certification.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- Provide support in all areas of the classroom
- Helping children with various degrees of need in the classroom.
- Prepare materials and help implement daily playschool routine, including setting up and tidying up
- Provide ongoing supervision to children in the classroom, ensuring safety considerations are met at all times.
- Perform ongoing cleaning duties as necessary
- Help Playschool Teacher implement plans and sometimes specialized activities for children needing extra support.
- Assist, at the request of the Playschool Teacher, in developing curriculum for the classroom (art, math, or science activities, sensory bin ideas, new centers, story time, etc.)
- Develop and maintain a positive relationship with the children and their families.
- Work one-on-one with children during center time, providing support and assistance where necessary.
- Interact and sit with children at Snack Time, serving as an appropriate model to the children if eating.
- Assist Playschool Teacher in maintaining up-to-date files for all children, safeguarding privacy of records and confidential information.
- Be familiar with all Evacuation Procedures and practice them on a regular basis with the Playschool Teacher and the class.
**SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE**:
- Previous experience in Early Childhood Education
- Reliable, dependable, and flexible
- Ability to communicate with preschool aged children at their level
- Ability to work as a team with the Playschool Teacher, Supervisor, and parent Board of Directors
- Has a child-centered philosophy and values aligned with those beliefs
- Energetic, creative, and resourceful
- Effective verbal and listening communication skills
**Job Types**: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 7 months
**Salary**: From $22.05 per hour
Expected hours: 14 - 18 per week
